Yup! - I Love the post office. My mail always gets delivered and I always receive it! - through rain, sleet and snow.

Maybe you prefer the service of Northwest Airlines. Or your 'favorite airline'?

I love XOM. It is up 43.5% since I bought it and pays a nice dividend regularly. Without those record profits, both the dividend and the capital gains would be less.

I would stay away from transportation (e.g. NWA) and other low-margin businesses. Retirees need assured income.

as long as you don't mind getting when it suits the Post Office, yeah, they're just terrific. Especially when it arrives shredded and unreadable, gotta love that. My mail carrier is a drunkard. She delivers the mail when it suits HER. Sometimes I go days without any mail at all. When I called to complain they tranferred my call to a computer. After an hour I hung up. Now I just give her a bottle of Jim Beam for Christmas. Seriously, when I need medical care I don't want people with the intelligence of the average postal worker performing it. No offense to Postal workers, but as a group they aren't the sharpest bunch.

So without the BIG Gov't programs of the thirties my parents would have stopped having sex? Wow, your vision of Gov't is Omnipotent!!! Do you worship the Fed on Sundays??

if the gov't was actually running this (as opposed to contracting it out) you'd likely be looking at 3% ERs and who knows what kind of performance.

Re: Early Retirement headed for the Endangered Species list?

I have plenty of 55+ customers visiting me in the Department of Labor (my clients are all veterans)...some NEED to work financially....some NEED to work emotionally...a few others NEED to work to save their lives (wife will kill them if not out of the house!!) (latter true, but meant to be funny)

The guys collecting pensions looking to work at a golf course or tend bar are good to chat with...they are looking to augment their social life...

The financial have to's are pretty sad.

The Federal Government contracts almost everything out. Don't you think they would contract out a universal health program? It is still a Government managed program. Private sector health insurance spends about 30% of each and every one of YOUR dollars on admin costs. We couldn't get worse than what we have.
