ER Dress Code Alert!!!
Many of us ERers are often confused about how we should present ourselves when in public. We are unsure about the kind of image we are projecting and whether or not we are correct as we try to conform to current fashions and fashon trends.
Despite what you may have seen from the black socks w/sandles crowd on the streets of your local community, the following combinations DO NOT go together and should probably be avoided at all cost:
1. A nose ring and bifocals
2. Spiked hair and bald spots
3. A pierced tongue and dentures
4. Miniskirts and support hose
5. Ankle bracelets and corn pads
6. Speedo's and cellulite
7. A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar
8. Unbuttoned disco shirts and a heart monitor
9. Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge
10. Bikinis and liver spots
11 Short shorts and varicose veins
12. Inline skates and a walker
and last, but not least...my personal unfavorite...
13. Thongs and Depends

So what's an old coot to do? Beltline under armpits, tops of trouser cuffs over top of socks? Be sure tohave buttoned top shirt button?
Or go with low riders, showing generous crack, with or without jockeys?

I think Nords carries off the pony-tailed Naval officer look quite well without looking like a aging hippy.

Thank you! It's the first time in my life that I've been in charge of my hairstyle, and as an unexpected bonus it scares the crap out of some of my shipmates.
Besides, my spouse assures me that hot chicks dig ponytailed nuclear engineers.
And it embarrasses the heck out of our teen daughter, but then everything we are and everything we do achieves that goal anyway.

Face it folks, we are retired, and redundant. As Eliot wrote-
I grow old ... I grow old ...
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.
Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they will sing to me.
I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

If this were true, two questions:
1) What do you wear when its cold out and you dislike shoes but find sandals comfortable?
2) Why do you *care* what's on my feet?? I couldn't care less what's on yours. (foot fetish?)
I have never subscribed to others fashion statements and now that I am retired, I don't have to perform to them. (DW excepted of course )

I saw a guy on the beach a couple of weeks ago that was almost completely bald but had enough hair in the back for a 2" ponytail. And the ponytail only had a dozen hairs tops. He had to be pushing 80. Or maybe just an old wore out retired Navy officer.

Yeah, I'm thinkin' "chick magnet" too...
Or maybe he got a few more millirem than I did.
A ponytail is not good "summer hair" and I didn't think I'd be keeping it around for this long, but spouse managed to persuade me with her vote. She'll let me know when it's time to look up the Locks of Love people.

You could shave it (and donate), then do a photo documentary of regrowing.

Yes, but you're an artist! So you can do that - - in fact, you should do that!

Been there, done that.
The period between "ready for inspection" and "Will it get any longer?" pretty much sucks. And a beard was a good idea on a cold submarine, but not such a winner in the tropics.

What will you do about these when you get a little older? Always wondered what happens to tattoos and piercings among the 50+ population. I imagine tattoos tend to sag eventually, depending on the location. I understand there's an expanding industry in laser tattoo removal services. The nose piercing will grow over I imagine.

Yeah, but it probably looks good on you - and you're a tad younger than some here. You didn't mean this kind of tongue ring and nose piercing did you?
I'm working those white cotton socks with my "on vacation in the warm" sandals. Until my gal beats me..
