Farm Truck vs Lambo

Anyone ever watch Street Outlaws on Discovery channel? One of the vehicles highlighted on that show is Farm Truck, a real sleeper of a vehicle. As a street racer from the 60s, I get a kick out of watching this show. While not a street race, here is Farm Truck on the drag strip. I am sure most folks would pick the Lambo to win:

That truck was fast, but it looks like the Lambo driver was busy texting when the light turned green. If not, the engine has got dirty spark plugs.

For this race we are judging the drivers not the vehicles. That was a pathetic start for the lambo. With a professional driver it would probably be neck and neck. Also that is the "poor man's" lambo. Probably $150k not the $500k the announcer says. That truck also has a ton of money put into it. Not $150k but a complete custom build just to handle that much hp and torque.

When I saw the truck purging the nitrous lines, I knew what the outcome would be.

Looks like a funny car with an old truck body and camper on it. Typical results when you get a high performance street car up against a nitro burning funny car Lambo never stood a chance. I'm guessing the truck turned a mid 7 sec 1/4. I like it.

It sure was. I've seen little old ladies accelerating faster than that. Like me.

A truck like that will never have the aerodynamics to get a 7.5 second 1/4 mile. Probably 10-12 seconds. That is still freakin fast. Anything under 12 seconds will beat about any production car.

Plus rear wheel drive and no weight in the back you will lose traction.

Heck, my stock Jeep (daily driver) run's in the mid 12's.

If it were an Aventador with an exceptional driver, the race would have been closer. Such a Lambo would be high 10s, Farm Truck has had some passes in low 10s depending on how much bottle he gives it.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 :
Engine: 6.4 liter HEMI V8
Horsepower: 470
Torque: 465 lb-ft.
0-60 mph: 5 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.5 seconds @ 104 mph

This is from motorweek. If you can do better than that in a stock Jeep I tip my cap to you.

OK, here's my best times in the Jeep. (So far)

Timer
0-60 ET4.1 sec
1/8 ET8.1 sec
1/8 mph87 mph
1/4 ET12.6 sec
1/4 mph107 mph

If you'd like to see a picture of the time slip/screen, I can send it. 1/4 mile ET was validated from 2 sources.

EDIT: BTW, the new Jeep SRT has a little more HP (5) but the real gain is in the 8 speed auto transmission. I believe, the 2012 model had a 5 speed. (Not 100% sure).

Are those actual track times or times from a device in the vehicle?

Doesn't prove anything, but amusing!

There are several. How about Farm Truck pulling a Trailer races a Porsche?

The times/speeds I posted above are from the factory EVIC SRT performance application. The actual 1/4 mile ET has been validated on a close/measured strip with two digital stopwatches and was actually 1 tenth quicker. So I'm comfortable the other EVIC times and speeds are pretty accurate too. You mileage (and opinion ) may vary.

All of these times/speeds were done on a closed track, of course....

Now that is funny. Got to go and get a trailer hitch and boat for my Jeep now.

Yep, conditions affect performance a lot, also dialing in your tire pressure. My last fast car was a modified corvette, that would run ~ 11.6 sec, but it was more of a road racer, with a top speed of 190+.

Here is another link with some pretty impressive 1/4 mile times:

That beats me. I've have several Vettes and other high performance cars but my best (stock) times were about 12 flat. (maybe 11.9 once or twice) but unconfirmed. I have run some mods, but prefer "mostly" stock. You can get into some serious money to lower those ET's, especially in a production/stock car.

Additionally, lower ET's can have a serious effect on your future WR....

BTW, switching user forums is getting me confused on all these abbreviations.
