Fireball XL5, now that was a show! I loved the rail launcher.

How about Magilla Gorilla? I dunno why that one came to mind. I went to Youtube and played the intro. I guess it's been 50 years since I've heard it, and I still remembered it.

The cool thing about this show is that they were so full of inside jokes aimed at grownups that people of any age could enjoy them.
But, you say there were inside jokes?

I grew up in Chicagoland where so many of these cartoons came on the Frazier Thomas after school show, in between the antics of bunny rabbit.
That would be Clutch Cargo.

Big fan of the Wiley Coyote but for background art it was all earlier Tom and Jerry. The way the artists spent time on the molding details, the shadows from the furniture, the slippers and broom of the maid - fantastic!

I enjoyed most of the late 1960's cartoons that others have mentioned.

Also, the kids' variety shows of the day often played cartoons from my parents' era, which were mostly over my head (Betty Boop comes to mind...lots of innuendo). I would watch them dutifully, wondering when they would start to be funny.

I hated mouse cartoons, especially Mighty Mouse, that were always beating up on cats. I am always on the side of all cats. Sometimes those cartoons actually made me cry in frustration because I couldn't save the cats.

Those would be my two top favorites, too. Jetsons, Magilla Gorilla, and Roadrunner are close behind. Many others posted here I also watched from time to time.

P.S. Magilla Gorilla helped me remember an unusual Scrabble word when I began playing in tourneys back in the 1990s. "OGEE" is a word and I remembered it from the Magilla Gorilla character.

P.P.S. The first investment axiom I ever learned came from a Flintstones episode. There was an episode where Fred pretends to be some high-class tycoon. When someone asks him how he made his money, he answers, "Buy low, sell high!"

Too bad the ACME store did not sell roadrunner meat. But it sold about everything else.

I forgot about Johnny Quest. The original, not the later reboot. It was my absolute favorite.
