Fort Hood recalls all Vietnam vets
From the Commanding General...
FORT HOOD, Texas -- The III Corps commanding general would like all
Vietnam veterans to join Fort Hood in a Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home
Ceremony May 21 as part of the Corps' Phantom Warrior Week.
During the ceremony, Vietnam veterans will receive the same fanfare
present-day Soldiers receive when they return from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The veterans will parade onto Sadowski Field in front of hundreds,
perhaps thousands of supporters who appreciate the sacrifices they made
50 years ago.
After the ceremony, veterans are invited to view the traveling Vietnam
Wall and static military vehicle displays. The day will end with a
festive barbecue.
Vietnam veterans who are interested in participating in the Welcome Home
Ceremony, can register online by clicking on the Phantom Warrior Week
logo here.

During the week, various sporting events will be held for the
active-duty Soldiers and at the weeks' end, May 24, Vietnam veterans are
invited to participate in the III Corps Commanding General Lt. Gen. Don
Campbell Jr.'s "Pass in Review" with Fort Hood units on Sadowski Field
prior to the presentation of the coveted Commander’s Cup.

Sounds like a better reception than the one I got back then.

Thanks but no thanks. Been trying to forget that episode of my life since 1971, no need to derdge up those old demons again.

I'm with you on this one (Nam '68-'69), however I'm reminded the last day of every month when I get my disability check.
Thank goodness the public has learned to separate the soldier from the politics, today.

Agreed. I'm sure this is something a lot of folks don't want to relive or revisit, but it's nice to see that these veterans may finally get some of the treatment and respect given to those coming home from other encounters.

+1
I am always reminded of the shameful way the returning Vietnam Vets were treated every time I see a hero's welcome for today's soldiers. I am glad public behavior has changed.

During my illustrious 4 year enlistment in the Vietnam era USMC, I passed in review many times before generals and politicians. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that again.

It is being held 3 weeks before Rolling Thunder on Memorial Day weekend in DC . Those guys are still coming in droves.
Maybe a celebration of service is what should happen not just a memorial of those lost in action. There is a place for both.
