Folks, a little prayer never hurts and it can make one's soul feel a little bit better.

GOD BLESS US ALL

Why don't they pray for their cars to run on water?

Unless those prayers are uttered by 19 islamic fundamentalists prior to crashing a couple of jumbo jets into a couple of buildings. Then a little prayer can (and did) hurt.

Or in the case of the 11 year old girl in Wisconsin that was essentially prayed to death (preyed on?). CNN FOX NEWS

Or thousands (or millions) of other examples of unnecessary death and suffering by the hand of religious zealots.

But, GOD BLESS US ALL, wink wink nod nod and all that.

You've been reading Christopher Hitchens, right?

Don't be too hard on Wags; we all have our own way of looking at things.

$1.99 a 6 pack? Not anywhere I've been to. The cheapest they carry is bud, $4.95 a 6 pack.

Mmmmm. You're making a good case for buying a really old beater to make beer runs on. I wouldn't trust a 30 pack of anything on the back of my motorcycle. I don't even know if that would be legal.

As long as you leave 26 to 27 of the cans unopened in the case, it should be legal. I guess .08 is still the legal limit for motorcyclists, the same as for drivers of passenger vehicles.

That's pretty wacky. He should have at least said "the devil made me do it".

Unfortunately it isn't the first and won't be the last occasion of a country or people attacking or invading another country or people in the name of their god or gods as fictitious or real as they may be (the god(s), not the countries).

Good one, Wags.

Although the alleged comment can't be proven beyond dispute, it certainly seems plausible. See generally Domke and Coe on Bush's use of religious rhetoric in his inauguration and State of the Union addresses -- Beliefnet.com, and Faith Central - Times Online - WBLG: The Word according to Dubya: 50 religious insights from George Bush.

We've been discussing "Peak Oil" for a few years, and making predictions of high oil prices and volatility, but you don't hear people say "well, it's come to pass."

Do you think that we are seeing the effects of peak oil?

Mr. McCain and Mrs. Clinton to the rescue with their proposal of the suspension of the 18.4 cent (a gallon) federal gas tax for the summer.

Washington Post: Experts Say Plan Supported By McCain, Clinton Would Bring Little Savings, Cause Other Problems

A quick fix gimmick for votes which will cost us more in the long run.

Here's an example of something that high oil prices buy us:

Gas went down a nickle a gallon at the local station...now a bargain at 3.60/gallon....stronger dollar and less demand...I hear the oil bubble popping already...

I think we are seeing effects of peak oil. Although currently, I feel, it is more of political peak rather than geological.

The problem right now is that we are in a plateu with very little spare capacity. So any disruption or even threat of disruption in supplies sends the oil market spinning.

We are probably seeing the beginning. I suspect that it will be a gradual process that will take years, and will not be obvious until after the fact (it's not like there will be a specific moment in time where we will all have some sort of epiphany).
