Woohoo!!!!

Close of business, July 6 I am GONE!!

It's a relief to have my cards on the table. I would have liked to say something sooner, but just didn't trust my organisation.

Not that I don't have plenty of thingslined out to do after I cease employment. But I can quit 'chilling out' north of the arctic circle and actually get on with my life!!

This board has been a great help and support in doing something that in some ways is fundamentally scary. But hey--scary can be fun!!

Hope you stay in Canada bosco. I've always enjoyed your wisdom.

You da man!

Btw, better by some of that Arctic property; who knows, with global warming...

I appreciate all the well-wishes!

Martha: true, no more arctic pictures. but maybe there will be other good pictures to be had!

Rich: yes--toxic. State government...weird. I did have a good boss, the best I've ever had. I feel some regret leaving him in the lurch. But he's handling it pretty well. maybe he's relieved >:D

Zipper: Canada is home--I'll cruise around , but Canada is where I will always end up. Although this detour was a long one away, and the US has been good to me. I feel extremely fortunate to have grown up, worked, and lived in the northwest, from Oregon to Alaska and most places inbetween at various times.

Nords: I once gave you permission to come to Alaska and beat on me with a surfboard if I didn't quit by the end of this summer. Looks like I have saved you the trip :)

thanks again to everyone. I'm looking forward to having more time to keep up with the forum. It sure is a great resource!

If anyone is in the East Kootenay region of BC, or for that matter Lake Louise or Banff, pm me. Maybe our paths will cross and we can get together for coffee or whatever...

now I have to make it through the next 18 days....

Have a great ER Bosco. We will look forward to reports of your experiences.

Congratulations from another Canadian. Have a great retirement. Funny but I intend to Visit the Arctic in summer 2008.

I Gave notice three weeks ago with a final day of July 30 but with leave and all I will be done at the end of the week. I have been busy as heck since but do the final turnovers tomorrow. I was a relief to finally make the decision. I have a little guilt as well for similiar reasons.

Congrats.............GRADUATE!!! I guess getting to FIRE is a sort of graduation, right?

Nords will be sending you a signed diploma from FIRE Institute forthwith............

Congrats! It's a great feeling, isn't it? You gonna head south for the winters?

Well Dawg, returning to British Columbia IS heading south for the winters after spending over a year in Kotzebue. But you're right, it's a great feeling! Can't wait--17.5 more days!!

I live really close to a fantastic ski area, and fairly close to several other great ones. So I'll probably do my traveling in the shoulder season and stay near home in the winters. Summers I hope to do some gardening.

I have several things I put on hold due to my job that I am really looking forward to taking up with a vengeance. I need to

1) get my German back (still can read well, but my conversational skills have suffered)
2) finish learning Russian
3) focus more on accordion and piano
4) lotsa fun home projects that have been neglected
5) MUCH more time for family

I'm jazzed!!!

BTW, CG, thanks for the well-wishes. You turned me on to Brewsters, and a much better route to the airport. I owe you!
