Re: Get down and dirty

I rode the F streetcar this morning with a guy who coughed or sneezed nearly once per 15 seconds for the entire 20 minute trip. He sneezed into his hand and I watched as he grabbed about four metal support posts before getting off.

I really wonder how many people got sick from this one piece of sh!t person. Stay home when your sick or at least use tissues.

Re: Get down and dirty

I always feel like I'm riding in a huge germ mobile when I use the metro transportation in SF. I always feel the need to sanitize my hands after riding the buses there. :P

My whole family came down with strep throat once after eating at a fast food joint. Sure wish people could stay home when they're sick. Not always possible, I know.

Re: Get down and dirty

LL,
the bird flu thread got me thinking so I started watching on the transport system. I'm now getting paranoid. My new goal, your hands should never rise above you shoulders unless they have been washed thoroughly.

I see bums/street people get on the public transport with ....... you fill it in and it ain't pretty. But putrid it is.

I have to agree OAP & LL. I used to ride BART everyday and I always felt like I riding a mobile perti dish. It was just plain gross. Along with the seats with *mystery stains*. One can only imagine what those mystery stains truly were. :P

OAP & CR,
That's why I always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse. Goes right along with my "clean freak" personality.

I really notice all the dirt and germs when I am riding on the buses there. I'm sure I am more aware of it because I live outside of a small town. When I go to the "big city" it is such a noticable contrast from where I live.

How did we turn into such a nation of germophobes? Come on over, and I'll share some bodily fluids with you. It's good for you! Your immune system needs the exercise. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Besides, I *like* sharing my bodily fluids!

Re: Get down and dirty

cube_rat,
I love SF so far and don't want to get down on it but I'm watching out for getting something that's hard to cure. *I still find Chinatown interesting because everyone is hacking and snorting and spitting.

Is this some ritual or custom?

wab,
that's quite alright, I have my own.

When I was in junior high school, my science experiment was to culture bacteria from my dog's water dish. If you have a pet, you're getting a healthy dose of yummy germs! That's why I make sure my kid gets lots of doggy licks.

Well, I think we are all a bunch of animal lovers here. My dog is the exception to my clean fetish. She gets to jump up in bed with me and snuggle.

How about all of the mystery smears on the windows. What's up with that. Yuck.

Re: Get down and dirty

LL, Cube_rat
I noticed it too and I've lived mostly in large cities. *SF is very attractive to the homeless because of the weather, the attitudes and the support structure. *I have not seen one homeless person that was not at least normal weight. *I see all sorts of breakfast, lunch and dinner kitchens and even some mobile ones.

It's a great city. *They look after the unfortunate but the unfortunate have illnesses that are very contagious and easily transferred. *But even the most liberal here seem to be tiring of the "downtown" problems such as totally unwashed persons get on a bus and then you sit in that seat. *

Re: Get down and dirty

cube-rat,
you probably know that Bart is trying to get a stop at Embarcadero. That, the Farmer's Market may close.

I've signed the petition every week with a different name (all people I know who will say they signed).

The petition also cited that the large homeless population across the street near Market would be adversely affected by increased noise. Great reason to stop Bart in it's tracks.

Re: Get down and dirty

Actually there's already an Embarcadero stop. I think BART wants to get a stop closer to the wharf (right down the street). The farmers market is fun to do shopping. I've picked up art work along with vegtables for dinner at the same time.

If you can eat art work, then how come there are so many starving artists
Oh yeah, this took place in SF. That explains it.

The ferry building is right at the end of embarcadero, along with the piers. So it's technically it's on the outskirts of the embarcadero. BART does have an "embarcadero stop" which I used everyday to trek to my cool office at 1 California Street.

Ahh, those were the days when I had an office overlooking the embarcadero. Now I make twice the amount of money but I'm shoved into an IT cubicle :P which reminds me of a men's urinal... oh never mind
