The issue is when your co-worker comes over to your computer to talk to you and sees an ad for Depends

Well, actually, that is almost exactly what has happened to me recently, as I've been doing a fair amount of shopping for my Mom, who is now in Assisted Living, and I decided to set up having those sorts of things shipped directly to her room there.

But again, with ad blockers, and a 'who cares' attitude, it just isn't a concern for me. Just like radio/TV/print ads - if that's the 'price' for these services, I can take it or leave it. In this case, I feel the 'price' is about zero for me, so I take it. Others are free to make a different choice.

That seems perfectly reasonable to me. Some people care and others less so. For me, I would say it's a lessor but not negligible concern. I'm also very annoyed at the impact of the entire advertising / tracking culture on the web browsing experience plus I'm worried about potential price discrimination.

Now, the price discrimination thing does bother me. But, AFAIK, the most egregious examples of that are the hotel and airline booking sites? Maybe there are others I'm not aware of?

But, again AFAIK, those work with your cookies in the browser, they are not using anything Google specific (the focus of some people in this thread).

Probably clicking on that link would have been a bad idea unless you recognize the warning as being from a trusted source ... not likely.

I'd suggest using the snipping tool to save the popup before restarting the computer. Then you could do a search on the wording in that popup. Might give one a clue as to the nature of the threat.
