Greatest hate songs ever

"My Little Town" is a 1975 song by the American duo Simon & Garfunkel.

"In my little town
I grew up believing
God keeps his eye on us all
And he used to lean upon me
As I pledged allegiance to the wall
Lord I recall my little town
Coming home after school
Riding my bike past the gates of the factories
My mom doing the laundry
Hanging out shirts in the dirty breeze
And after it rains there's a rainbow
And all of the colors are black
It's not that the colors aren't there
It's just imagination they lack
Everything's the same back in my little town

In my little town I never meant nothing
I was just my father's son
Saving my money
Dreamin of glory
Twitching like a finger on a trigger of a gun

Nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town
Nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town
Nothing but the dead and dying back in my little town"

You Keep Me Hangin On - originally done by The Supremes in the 1960s, redone by Kim Wilde in the 1980s. Here is the Wilde version:

This has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, but is simply a direct response to scrabbler 1's Kim Wilde post. I wonder if anyone has seen this video of Kim and her brother Ricky, looking slightly drunk, and performing "Kids In America" on the London Tube one night? I'm not sure how popular she was over here, but Kim was a big pop star in the UK in the 80's. I would have flipped out had I seen her and her brother busking on the Tube!

As far as the main topic of the thread goes, I never really "got" angry music. My best friend is a huge NIN fan. Although there are a few songs of theirs I quite like, there was just too much anger for me to strongly identify with him. My best friend had a lot of unresolved anger growing up, so I think that NIN was something of a release for her.

Perhaps this just makes me seem like an out of touch old guy, but I'm wondering what others think. Does it help to be an angry person, in order to appreciate "angry" music?
