Greatest love songs ever

I realize this selection is probably not a good fit for this forum...but I am seldom moved by songs as much as this one moves me.

This is quite an ancient song (by my standards). First time I have heard it I was having coffee at an outdoor coffee shop listening to the waves washing ashore with an old friend of the family. She was a widow at the time and when this song came on the radio she could not hold back her tears while saying “this is the story of my life”.

I realize few people can relate to lifestyles where families are torn apart for long stretches of time and unwittingly ultimately (more or less) grow apart. Unfortunately I have personally seen way to many cases, so this song does strike a cord with me...

Here's is a quick and dirty two minute translation:

For a long time now you are making me gaze down the horizon,
and curse the luck that the Seas bring,
gifting him lonely and sleepless nights,
while sadness knits silver throughout my hair.
Captain of mine...

I know, your first love were the Seas,
and I was just a spark in the darkness,
which when the fog lifted before the ship,
remained like a foam in its wake.
Captain of mine...

And so I am getting older alone, from one ship to another,
wishing to embrace and kiss you,
though I know well that a with each passing day,
with the prow of the ship I am permanently losing you.
Captain of mine...

But when with, all your wants fulfilled, home to me you return,
to this last port, that calmly awaits you,
you will not even notice that next to you
no longer stands that young woman, but some old lady.
Captain of mine...

Her song and your translation give me cold chills. Unbelievably beautiful, and fearlessly true.

Is this some Balkan language?

Ha

I know what you mean... I get the chills each and every time I hear it...

I never heard Berlin or Terri Nunn before. Boing!!! Great drummer, and Terri reminds me of Grace Slick.

Well, she must remind someone else of Grace.

I gotta listen to more of this. We old men love this kind of music.

Ha, they had a few big hits, this song was actually banned for quite some time from some radio stations...They did the song from TOP GUN too(Take my Breath away). Terri Nunn had a couple of solo albums after the band broke up.

Diana Krall performed live in Paris in 2001. I think she was better looking in this video than in a performance in 1996 that LS99 posted a while back. I like her cool style, and her piano playing (near the end).
