Guess I am eating all the candy this year

Yeah, I DO miss being able to take the leftovers to the company break room and having them disappear! It just occurred to me, though- I go to a Toastmasters meeting at a large company every Thursday and the receptionist used to have a candy dish at her desk. I bet SHE could make it disappear!

When my kids were young we would go thru 50-60. We would walk with the kids (leaving abowl at the door) and the neighbors handed out adult beverages for the adults.

.... then the neighborhood aged. We had ONE visitor last night.

I bought a huge bag of Fun-Size chocolate from Costco; put all in a pretty bowl, turned on all the porch lights, waited for the kiddies all evening. NO ONE CAME. Not even one. Now I am stuck with all this chocolates!!! I WANT TO EAT THEM ALL since they are delicious candies but of course should not. Does anyone know if I can freeze chocolates? or refrigerate? Please give any ideas. When I was still working, it was easy, I just took the chocolates to work, left them in the lunch room, and they'd disappear in no time but since I've ER'd there is no where for me to take the candies!

This is the first year that we had plenty of kids. We've been here 32 years and this is the first time that it was steady visitors for the designated 2 hours. I didn't count but I'm guessing it was about 100-120.

DH bought the candy this year and I'm glad it was stuff I don't like. If there is a KitKat or Butterfinger around I'm too easily convinced to have just one more. This year was Tootsie Rolls and Milky Way, which are just not worth the calories to me.

We had the best weather for Halloween that we've had in years, which contributed to the high number of visitors. Some very cute costumes and DH remarked on how polite they were.

Our neighborhood is usually pretty good for Halloween trick-or-treaters. People drive their kids in from elsewhere and several people in the neighborhood go to elaborate lengths to decorate their house. However, last night we were not at home because we went to a Houdini seance and magic show in the Mission District in San Francisco. We went early for dinner and when we emerged from the restaurant 24th Street was packed with little kids going from business to business. Lot's of little kids and lots of great costumes.

And . . . we have no candy leftovers to deal with.

Blew through our two Costco bags between 5:30 and 7:45. Perfect weather for the La Quinta costumed set; I felt bad for the Oregon kids in the midst of the biggest rain storm so far. Outstanding groups of happy well mannered kids. Got a kick out of a young teenage group who went as immigrants - Ooo, scary!

Quick, before you get hungry, take those chocolates and ruin them somehow! Put them down the garbage disposal, or throw them in the trash can. Sure, it's wasting a little money but losing weight can cost money too (not to mention cause one to feel unhappy in the meantime).

I didn't buy candy because of my problems with overweight, so I sat in the dark from 5PM to 10PM. It was pouring rain and I didn't see or hear any trick or treaters on our street, but still played it safe by keeping the lights off.

I miss seeing the little kids in costumes. We live on an isolated street with no children in the neighborhood so I did not even purchase any candy .I may pick up a bag at 50% off since I lost another pound .

Don't destroy them, hahaha. Yes, chocolate freezes very well. I know lots of people that prefer their chocolate straight out of the freezer (not me, I thaw it first). Personally I like to put it into a freezer Ziploc first but some people don't even do that. You may notice some of the chocolate turns whitish. This is called blooming and is totally safe. It's just caused by moisture. Enjoy your year's worth of chocolate!

Yes, it is okay to refrigerate or freeze candy, doesn't bother it a bit. DW does that often.

We had about 100 kids come by, I suspect a lot were not local. But we did manage to give out most of the candy, we had perhaps a paper lunch bag amount left.

Around here, a couple of schools and Girl Scout troops are collecting unopened bags of candy to ship to our soldiers overseas. It's probably a good way for me to get rid of the two bags I picked up "just in case."

You can always donate them to the food bank, sure its not food, but it will be appreciated by the staff and/or clients.
The staff will probably break out a large bag into smaller bags so it gets spread around.

I don't really mind, since the families park the cars in one place and walk around. It's safe and most people in the neighborhood are home and pass out candy. It would drive me nuts if they drove up and down the block.

In my old neighborhood, they'd bring a full sized bus full of kids from the inner city. The bus would sit at the end of the block with the motor running, while the kids sprinted from door to door, then they would all run back to the bus and ride it to the next block. They probably covered 30 blocks that way in one night. I have no idea who paid for the bus. There were probably a few adults on the bus, but no parents in sight on the street. I wondered if the kids got to keep their candy or if the adults were selling it or what. Nobody could possibly eat that much candy.

We have almost no children left in our neighborhood, so the kids we saw last night were all from elsewhere. It is a very convenient place for parents who live in outlying areas to bring their kids. We live in the center of town and the houses are close together and close to the street, so the parents waiting on the sidewalk can actually see and speak with the people who hand out candy on their porches. There is almost no traffic and the neighborhood is safe. Most of us in the neighborhood set out decorations -- carved pumpkins and such -- and give out treats. The young wife and I really enjoy seeing all the kids in their costumes.

Same thing here 2 bags in 2 hours. We have small lots, so lots of houses next to each other - very efficient for T&T. Kids from neighborhoods all around us show up. I forgot and scheduled reservations for a dinner theater that night and then bought a case of juice boxes that we always give. There was also the Georgia/Florida game in town that day so I don't know how many kids in the neighborhood were out. We usually give out about 60-80 juice boxes. Now I have to return the juice to Costco. I miss not seeing the little ones in their costumes this year.
