Some of you are taking Friday off so for those of you reading on a "work break" I thought I'd start this thread a day early.
We've been cleaning the house and getting packed up for next week's vacation.* Tomorrow at tae kwon do sparring I'm going to learn how to run the scoring computer/equipment.* There's gonna be a lot of yardwork this weekend and the kid has at least one basketball game.* A small south swell is coming tomorrow & Sat so we're going to try taking the camera in the surf again.
The USS RONALD REAGAN just disgorged 5,000 happy sailors at the end of their six-month deployment.* (You can smell the teen spirit!)* Spouses, significant others, & families are also here to get ready for the TIGER cruise on the way back to San Diego.* *Because the RIMPAC exercise starts next week, there are also sailors from seven different nations exploring every nook & cranny of Ke'eamoku Street.* Those three groups have probably boosted the visitor population by over 10,000.* The exchanges & commissaries have been picked clean already.* The bar owners & cab drivers are smiling, but I think we're going to stay close to home this weekend.
Tuesday night we'll be on Ford Island sitting in beach chairs along the edge of the harbor channel, perhaps sipping frosty beverages from a cooler, and watching the fireworks from Pearl Harbor (literally in the harbor on a barge) & Ala Moana Marketplace.* When we get home we'll be able to see a little from Schofield Barracks as well as the innovative extralegal backstreet aerial shows put on by those quick-moving entrepreneurs in Ewa Beach...

Re: Happy 4th of July weekend! What are your plans?
4th of july snuck up on me, and we did have all those fireworks stands going up all week!
Took the dogs to the river this morning, let them frolick, then went back myself with the kayak and did a couple of hours of paddling, to come home and see that I'd made tens of thousands of dollars today in the stock market.
Pretty good start!
Probably get a box of sparklers, have some family and friends over, a little bbq and some cocktails, then have a little fireworks display in the driveway, walk around the neighborhood and see everyone elses attempts to light themselves and their belongings on fire. The usual.

My family is going to go back to my sister's house in VA. My sister told me that she is so glad that I am retired. We have visited back and forth at each other's house and talk on the phone almost every day!

Half day tomorrow for me then not back to the grind until Wed. Dh is working, this is my last bit of having the house to myself until next year so I'm taking advantage of it. I'll probably hit some yard sales Sat, fleamarkets Sunday then just relax the rest of the time. The 4th we'll have a family cookout and light some fireworks in the yard with the rest of the neighbors unless I can talk dh into going to Boston for the Pops and fireworks. Should be a good time with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry in the show.

uss ronnie was here i think just after commissioning. that puppy is huge. what an amazing boat.
july 5 is a best friend's big five-o b-day so i was gonna take her to key west for the weekend but i'm not yet too organized and so failed to get us a room in some cute bed & breakfast downtown. only rooms left are motels along the highway, yuck. turns out she wants to stick around anyway for her brother who just hopefully went into remission from lung cancer.
so i guess it's the fourth with bro & family or maybe i'll bike to the beach and watch the works from there. for the 5th i'm taking my friend on a fort lauderdale tourist day. i'll get us all-day passes for the water-taxi and treat her to lunch and dinner on the water with all day drinking in between. the treat for her, of course, is that i don't drink. so this ought to be interesting.

Snorting coke off a stripper's tits?
Don't you guys know that even if July 4 is good, Canadians have invented a much superior holiday called July 1, which is celebrated three days before July 4. It may be exactly identical, but celebrated with less vigor and having less history behind it, but it's, you know, superior.

Have our close, dear friends coming in tomorrow with their new baby (who I haven't seen yet!) and staying through the 4th. I'm done with work until next Wednesday (yay!) and I've already had a Glennlivet and two glasses of wine (and working on the third!). BBQs, picnics at the beach, and sampling some wines they brought down from Napa Valley (they live in San Francisco and are members of a winery club) are on the agenda. Living it up!

Going fishing on Saturday with my dad, which I have not gotten to do yet this year. Other than that, I'll be trying (again) to rid the house of fleas without the aid of modern chemistry.
Can't use any of the actually effective stuff around a newborn or a nursing mother...

I work for a bus company and there's a big fireworks event tomorrow night.* I'll be working at the fireworks site, helping with loading and unloading the buses.*
It's my first time to work the event. I hope it doesn't rain 'cause people reportedly get crazy and push and jostle towards the buses trying not to get wet.
I'm celebrating my birthday on the 4th, and friends are giving me a party; that's my kind of party--thrown for me somewhere other than my home, no cleaning and cooking for me.
Have a good 4th, everyone!

We are off today to visit friends in Stevens Point Wisconsin. They have three dogs we have two. Should be a zoo. Considering bringing a monster firework we bought off of an Indian reservation last year, but I think it is safer to set it off in the winter.

Normally, we would be on vacation to visit family back east but with DW incapacitated due to recent spine surgery we will be homebound. I am off on Mon. and Tues. and plan on chilling out inbetween nursing duties with DW and doing some yardwork. Somewhere in there I will empty a few beer bottles, grill some red meat, and study the inside of my eyelids for extended periods of time.
Hope you all have a Happy and Safe holiday weekend.
