Yep

Got to wait at the bridge for a couple Gulf size shrimp boats headed in this morning. Move the trucks to high ground. Take in the lawn furniture. I.e. - do the drill - after 25 yrs know it by heart.

Re: Have you battened the Hatches? Unclemick?

Pretty much dodged the bullet - as of 6:30 local time. Under water about 400 feet up to the road, got electricity.

Three camps over they are floating the downstairs 'beer refrigerator' up to dry ground in their waders. The neighbors back steps - what's left of them are banging around our pilings - need to poke em loose during wind brake.

50-60 mph - about like a small winter storm - with usual 4-6 foot rollers coming in.

Great excuse to lazy up and put on an extra pot of coffee and enjoy the free entertainment.

Will be watching Dennis this week - different kettle of fish.

P.S. - looks like the 'slosh model' whatever the heck that is - got it about right around here - 4-6 feet above mean tide plus waves.

It's begining to look like - at 11:00 A.M. - CDT, New Orleans will recommend - to those that can - now is the time to bogey.

Hotel rooms are booked as far north as Shreveport.

Will begin the drill - once again this afternoon. Decision point Sat A.M. - depending on the track after Cuba.

Getting pontification time in now - just in case we're out of pocket for a while.

Any Florida posters - in the gunsights??

Gives new meaning to the phrase 'Dennis the Menace' -

Good Luck unclemik on riding this one out.

We bitch about winter up here in Minnesota in January, but are never forced from our homes. We leave voluntarily.

UncleMick,
Just have a hurricane party, put some wood and duct tape on the windows, and ride it out. I think boiled shrimp and Dixie Beer should get you through the weekend. Send that rain to Texas, BTW.

Good luck!

Re: Have you battened the Hatches? Unclemick?

Murphy's law - rear brakes are going out on the Silverado - still drivable - barely. Like I've said in the past - Chevy is the greatest advert Toyota didn't have to buy.

New Orleans put off decision on mandatory till tomorrow at 8 A.M.

Meanwhile - have semi called in some rainchecks/favors to visit Slidell ( a wopping 20 feet above sea level) and a spot slightly SE of Huntsville AL.

Man - we got duct tape - always have duct tape in a fishcamp.

Duct tape, beer, batteries, and bottled water.

Nobody wants to go Dallas again - like Ivan last year.

14 hrs of togetherness on the road bumper to bumper - is too fresh in their minds I guess.

Re: Have you battened the Hatches? Unclemick?

Hmmm

Some things are worse than hurricanes - out for the morning whiz with the dog - went over to talk with a neighbor several camps over - on the patio reading the paper drinking coffee - all boats here moved out or trailered on high ground - and one neighbor gone to their 'regular house in lower St Bernard Parish - to protect and sandbag - nope - the wife took out of town vacation - heh, heh - hurricane? says I - nah - she needed a grand daughter break.

At the doughnut shop this morning - long time no see 55 and out - from the old plant shows up from Fort Walton/Panama City area - Ah ha - left for the hurricane says I - well that and I got sucked into children and in - laws getting their business going. Enough is enough - I'm not going back - after all I am retired.

Heh, heh, heh - it's the sneakies - that can derail a retirement.

BTY - the computer says we (New Orleans) dodged the bullet once again.

Computers are never wrong. ---- Right

Apparently a group of kayakers trying to raise money for cancer are about to paddle their way through the path of Dennis.

I am not making this up...

Yeah, I always got just what I needed out of computers. The GIGO
factor. It also applies to Congress

Hey unclemick, I just bought a 20 foot Bayliner Trophy, Center Console.
My guess is that there are people in your neck of the woods who would
fish out in the Gulf with it. I wouldn't, but can you confirm if this would be considered common?

Re: Have you battened the Hatches? Unclemick?

The old 'rule of thumb' I remember is 22' minimum.

But that wouldn't stop anyone here - provided you are fast enough to outrun the weather.

And we have a lot of barrier islands, passes and cuts to use to skilled advantage.

When I lived on Lake Michigan, the "rule of thumb" was 18 feet minimum.
I lived there for 11 years. I decided that my "comfort zone" started at
24 feet. Now...............I expect I will never have that length of craft.
I hope 20' is enough for where we are located.
