So was I!

But jeez man, I'd be nervous around a spouse thats got walking papers in her hand and is just looking for any excuse to drop them on me.

(this post has a high facetiousness rating and may in fact contain sarcasm, which is a known component of CFL's and may cause death in some laboratory test situations in the states of california and texas)

I had a fiancee' that acted like that.......I wisely broke it off........if they're acting like that BEFORE marriage, ain't gonna get any better..........

Bottom line, if I surprised her with a Lexus, I would have a very good night.........

However, the next morning would be a lecture: "What effect will this have on our ER"??

Oops............

Our house was built in 1955. Someone added a lot of nice options, including an intercom system. But when we moved in in 1983 all we found was all the speakers with large round speaker grills, built into the wall in every bedroom. We looked all over and never found any control box or any wires to connect to anything.

Since there was no way to use any of the speakers, we covered them up as we redecorated the rooms. It was probably a nifty item in it's day. They may have designed it to play music throughout the house. But I can't imagine all of us wanting to listen to the same music at the same time.

A better upgrade in 1955 would have been extra phone outlets. Even by 1983 this house only had 1 phone. A few more electrical outlets would have been handy, too.

"I'd rather work an extra year and make you as happy as I can, honey!"

Then you'd have had TWO good nights.

Of course, at $30,000 a night, leasing still sounds like a smarter option.

I dug it out of the wall and had a look at its innards today, cleaned and lubed the tuner. Its an IM-2003.

Aside from 17 years worth of dust, some amusements and mysteries.

First was the 30' worth of the old fashioned "antenna wire" that has the two conductors and the solid plastic 1/4" 'ribbon' between them, all coiled up and shoved into the wall. Havent seen that stuff since tv's had rabbit ears.

Next was the "tape out" connector dangling loose, one of the old small coax connections seemingly for a tape player input.

And hmmm...a telephone line connected in to a couple of terminals. Wish I could find an online copy of the owners/installation manual to figure out what THAT might be used for, unless it was just used by someone after the original installation to add one of the stations.

Also seems this can take an input from the doorbell to echo the ringer through all the stations. Pretty cool.
