Huell Howser passed yesterday

If you live in California, you probably saw his shows on PBS, "California's Gold". He worked till his final days and appeared never retired.

He actually retired last November, but he was a hard worker for sure. My wife met him at an event in Little Tokyo a few years ago and he seemed to be a genuine human being on or off the camera.

I seem to remember hearing not too long ago that he would no longer be doing his show then the next thing, he was dead. A great shame.

So many great segments to choose from, but did you see the one in which an old elephant trainer reunited with his elephant after 15 years? The elephant remembered him. Very moving.

Just saw this article which I think sums up what was so appealing about him -

I liked his show. A well done show that uncovers the local hidden treasures.

Another one that I liked was The Eyes of Texas which was on TV weekly when I lived in that country.

I read the LA times article tribute to him and although I'd never heard of him, was touched by the sentiment expresses. Sounded like a neat guy, full of enthusiasm.
