I Guess This Is Home Now
I just let my Motley Fool subscription expire. I was a member there for 5 years and had a pretty good time. I posted the following:
"As in the famous song by Andrea Bocelli. Time To Say Goodbye. Five very nice years as a "charter member" of the fool. Occasional poster, met some great people, learned a lot and killed a lot of time. I will be spending even more time on the Retire Early boards started by others who originally posted here. I will miss some of the great folks that post here and I will have to get used to not having a REC button.
yakers"
So this is home now, of course it has been for a couple years now, I just never told the other folks I was cheating on them.

Re: I Guess This Is Home Now
yakers,
What motivated you to split from TMF since you had been a member for such a long time and had made good acquaintances there?

Re: I Guess This Is Home Now
I followed seveal boards but the biggest were LBYM and Retire Early. The early retirement was and still is pretty good. The REHP board got Shanghi'd by the extreme right and most posts were off topic. Overall on the various boards the signal to noise became unacceptable to me. And the non-board part of MF is a wasteland.
The board here has better information, a wider political range (some days I miss John Gault) and is *much* more entertaining. Some of the better posters from MF also post here or have moved over too. The free part is only a bonus. I would pay $30 for MF if I thought it was worth it, I pay $100+ for The Economist and don't complain. Now that I think of it its probably time for me to make another donation to dory to support this board.

yakers, I l argely agree with your assessment. I find it amusing that you said the LBYM board has been hijacked by the extreme right. I would have said the REHP board there was hitler's fan club.

Re: I Guess This Is Home Now
Seems like there are several specialty financial boards that have popped up from the MF charging fees. I rec. a lot of good financial education years ago from the MF on index funds, but find it useless now.

Right, LBYM sort of OK, REHP just too much. Post corrected, so much for the advantages of word processing.

Re: I Guess This Is Home Now
Man, I guess I am one for LBYM before I knew what it was... I was on MF for a few years before it started to charge for their services... I was not on any of the boards... did not see them if they were there... but did not want to pay money for what seemed not that great..
I have to admit that I kind of like this one!!! Some very good posters that know a lot and have different opinions from me... mostly good arguments from both sides and not much name calling when it occurs (well , sometimes I will slid)...
I am a very smart person.. and a very smart person knows that they do not know much of anything... but a little of everything.. so it is great to get the knowledge from someone who knows a LOT of one thing...
