I had similar issue with my bank using mobile deposit on tablet, didn't work. I ended up getting a cheap smart phone from Tracfone for about $50. Don't even have it activated as a phone , just use the deposit app over wifi.

I don't use debit cards because of the issues mentioned. I have only written a couple of paper checks in many years. I don't even want the checks back, just something else to feed the shedder. I did have one bank that included images, reduced, on the statement pages. Another option is the duplicate checks that make a copy when you hand write them.

I heard a news item the other night about Bankamerica being fined a bazillion dollars or so for some sort of misleading practice that sounded about like what the bank employee pushed on the OP.

Doesn't surprise me at all...

I only use my "debit" card to extract money from my CU's ATMs.

Well my deposit check problem is solved. I deposited a test check to myself yesterday into an Ally account via my wonderful and much loved ScanSnap scanner sitting right next to my laptop. From there, if need be, I can do a ACH transfer to my other regular account should I need money in it. NO third device needed.

Met with manager yesterday at my bank, who tried soothing me by upping my non existent interest money market there to a whooping .30%. So now, at the end of year I might be able to buy lunch from interest instead of a cup of coffee. So I thanked him and went on my merry way.
