My weekly trip to wallyworld is done in the early morning hours so I don't encounter too many problems with lines. My pet peeve is the person with 5000 things in the buggy and she's in the 20 item line. But then again, I'm retired and can just sit in line and pretend I'm doing a study on "Human Behavior In The Checkout Line"

I haven't ever asked for a new line to be opened.

I'd rather wait in an existing line, than deal with the kind of hostility you dealt with, Amethyst! People are so rude these days.

If there was only one line and I had been standing in it for 15 minutes waiting to checkout and they opened a new line I would not be happy if the person at the end of the line jumped in front. It's really the fault of the cashier opening the new register, they should have selected someone from the original line. That's what they always do at the Fry's where I buy my groceries and it helps to avoid any hard feelings.

As in many things in life, sometimes things are not as they appear.
This has happened to me, and it is uncomfortable. I would rather wait in the "unlimited" line unless the place is truly empty.

I refer to this as an "inversion" because the order of people becomes inverted. This also happens in traffic, when you would change lanes to get from behind a slower driver, but you can't because the line of traffic behind you is pealing off from the end of the tail to pass you (and the slow driver) blocking your way into the next lane..
