What a plumber needs to know: "S### runs downhill, and payday's Friday."

From the article:."Long a subject of bathroom humor, these high-tech commodes must use fan-driven air flow......."

It hit the fan!

Anyone remember the SNL skit, wherein a repairman sent to work on the space station had plumber's crack?

OK, I'll bite...

A plumber comes to fix a leaky toilet. The job takes 15 minutes.

Plumber: All done, Ma'am. Here's the bill: $100.
Homeowner: $100 for 15 minutes' work! I wouldn't pay that to a brain surgeon.
Plumber: I know. I used to be one.

1969 - visiting Astronauts to pep up the contractor troops - I know you all have one burning question - number 1 has suction tube with a valve - done properly - brings a smile to an Astronauts face. Now number 2 has this sticky bag. You've heard that a better mousetrap will bring the world to your door - you invent a better number 2 and I'll come to your house.

Of all the Astronaut PR pep talks(1966 - 1996) - that one I remember most.

heh heh heh - I worked on some proposed Skylab experiment bids/mockups in that area. Funny back then never they got that much news coverage. Although there were some floating poop in Zero G episodes. .

And that's the pep on poop!

Humanity and civilization has always involved how to deal with excrement. Most people in the USA just assumes it goes 'away'.

Excrement from humans and their pets (cats dogs...) and food (cows sheep pigs...)...

One of the rules of permaculture: "There is no such place as 'away'."

Ironically if they open a couple of the wrong valves they'll have more suction than they ever wanted, and the stuff will really fly!

I'll leave it to UncleMick to calculate the effect of the specific impulse of ejected human feces on the Space Station's rotation. And during the next visible overhead pass, I'll be looking for extra tinkles twinkles in the sky...

I recall years ago, there was a space shuttle toilet stalactite; it was affecting maneuverability, and they used the shuttle 'arm' to remove it.

In zero G, is there really such a thing as a stalactite or stalagmite? I'm guessing it was just your basic peescicle.
