Is it the Economy, Stupid?

According to the media, the economy is an issue that many people are basing their presidential choice on.

But how much control/influence does the president have with regard to the economy? The new president won't even take office for a year.

Al,
You are being way too logical about this
1. The presidential candidates tell the media what they think the problems are and that they are the ones to solve it.
2. The media repeats this
3. People who are interviewed repeat what the media says

The Dems are and have been saying the economy is bad - either heading towards a recession or the quality of jobs is low.
The Repubs aren't saying much about it.

I worked with "those in the media" and have family members in it - all TV. Very little thought or research goes into what is being said.

Have a glass a wine and enjoy life.

It was probably one of the main reasons why the first Bush did not get reelected. People want to blame someone and who better than the one at the top of the chain. Just like when the next President inherits this economy if it hasn't recovered they will get blamed for a great deal of it.

All I want the next president to do is keep this country safe and take the least possible amount of money from me.

How can the president keep you safe?

Bottom line you have to be street wise watch your own back and the backs of your loved ones. Not one politician is going to keep you safe! Kinda like those idiotic Onstar ads, when there is an accident and they person says with onstar we keep you safe! Yea right.

Oh and keep this country safe? Have you seen the gun play in our american cities on a daily basis. what you really mean is to keep the suburbs and upper class areas safe.

There is a dirty secret in america the poor are well not protected by the police or anyone.

My goal for the next president is that when I see him or her on TV, I don't think "This person is retarded." I know I'm setting the bar kind of low...

i've never noticed any difference in my financial lifestyle which i could attribute to either party in power.

i'm with al-t on the tv thing. i've never heard the current idiot say anything on tv for any longer than it took me to change the channel. though the last time i couldn't get to my remote fast enough and i think i heard him complete a sentence. did he learn to do that in his first or second term?
