America does not import any oil from Iran. Funny though if the world shut out Iranian oil yes the autos would need to be parked.

I don't think that we're in charge of what other nations buy . . .

maybe every nation has the right to decide that themselves....maybe "we" don't have the right to "not have" any nation buy another nation's oil.
I realize this is a difficult concept...
in a buyer's market like the energy market is, lotsa luck convincing people not to buy it. They may SAY they won't....
I have a question for those who know a thing or 2 about international law. I do not mean it rhetorically--I really would like to know.
What is the basis for telling Iran they may not have nukes? Don't get me wrong, I don't want them to have nukes any more than the next guy. I'm just wondering what the legal basis might be for a supposedly sovereign nation being told they may not develop and possess weapons.
I'm all in favor of economic and other pressures to discourage them. But I guess I'd like to understand why Iran may not have nukes but Israel can.

Re: Isolating Iran Funny
Didn't president Carter impose an Iranian oil freeze so that the US could not purchase Iranian Oil ?
Isn't that freeze still on ??

We purchase no oil from Iran but their oil on the market makes it so the market is running at peak, take the iranian oil off the market and we have a world wide shortage that would make the gas lines of the 70s look tame.

Mass violence and suicide violence aren't unique to Arabs or Muslims. Jews have machine-gunned down worshipers at mosques, a jew killed Yitzhak Rabin who was making progress on Israeli-Palestinian peace. Christians did some ethnic cleansing back in Serbia I think it was. Just a few examples.
Personally I think the suicide bomb tactic is a function of power. Palestinians, for example, have little hope of mounting a conventional military offensive against Israel. So a suicide bomber tactic is more effective and lower loss for them than a military-on-military assault.

I have to admit that I have the same question as Bosco.
Stuff like this:
Quote:
When was the last time a jew strapped dynamite to his or her belly and pulled the rip cord?? Arabs, Muslims??
|
and this:
Quote:
Because they want to kill anyone who's not Muslim.
|
does not answer the legal question.

You're right. I suppose it's the bigger stick theory: He who has the bigger stick gets to make the rules. (Doesn't necessarily make it "legal" however).
But perhaps we should also ask if we have a moral basis to do so. Do we have a moral obligation to prevent our people from being annihilated by our enemies?
We certainly have a strategic need to do so.

You're right-- what point are you trying to make?
I can see an occasional cocktail-hour post but you show up, fling a few hand grenades, and race off to the next topic...
