Here's an almost useless fact that I discovered last night.
It's probably not useful if you have an industrial strength shredder or you're prudent about how much you shred at one time (neither applies to me). In the past I've always been able to clear the shredder by reversing it or by using tweezers to clear the jam. However last night I waited too long before emptying the container so the shredded stuff backed up and compacted the material in the cutting blades.
Long-nosed pliers that I had were too large to fit in the slot; tweezers fit but I didn't have the strength to dislodge the jam;
reversing the shredder didn't work. Fortunately the long-nosed pliers I picked were in a fishing vest w/ a hemostat and so when all else failed, including taking all screws off the cover and finding that led nowhere, I tried the hemostat. It worked great.......narrow enough to fit in the slot and w/ a grip like a gorilla.
