Is anyone else following this murder trial?

As you may know, Jodi Arias is accused of murdering her former boyfriend, having traveled 1,000 miles from California to Arizona (by a torturous route) to his home, stabbing him some 27 times, slitting his throat ear-to-ear down to the spine, and shooting him in the face. She initially claimed during a police interrogation that she wasn't there, then the police told her they had photos of her there plus other damning evidence, so she claimed two intruders committed the murder, then now, almost five years later, claims it was all self-defense.

Today, Day #19 of the trial, after over a week of Arias being on the stand, her testimony finally got around to the day of the murder. Tomorrow, Day #20, we should get to the details of what went down. You can watch the trial live here, as it happens.

I am not following any murder trial. No time for this. I hope this comment does not sound too harsh but following this type of drama on TV or on the Internet, in my mind, is a waste of time.

Maybe for a doctor, but not for one who has worked some 35 years in criminal law. It's sorta like attending a legal training seminar for some. For others, it's just curiosity. Plus, I can do work on the computer while listening, and occasionally to the trial proceedings.

+1 It's nice when you can make the choice on what to have in your mind or life.

Yet you have (make?) the time to read (follow?) and comment on (contribute to?) threads about it... :2funny:

Not following it in detail, but have seen a few clips here and there on the news...

I think she will be convicted.... I do not know the rules for execution there, but I would not be surprised if she got that sentence....

Yeah, who cares? It's only one of our three branches of government. I hope folks also don't waste their time following their local and federal executive and legislative branches of government. ;)

I know the trial is going on but have not watched any of it. I have seen it on in the background at a restaurant/bar I frequent. What I have not researched or yet understand is why is this particular murder trial on tv and receiving this much publicity? Seems like there are likely dozens of murders each week in America where the girl friend or wife kills the husband. Were either of these people "famous" before this?

She can remember ordering a strawberry frappuccino during an incident years ago, but has no memory at all of how she stabbed him 27 times (many of those in the back) and slit his throat ear-to-ear, and dragging his body back into the shower. She definitely did not do well so far today, IMHO. The prosecutor has just been given a wide open field and better not fumble the ball when it's his turn to cross-examine. (Thanks to being ER'd, I can spend some time watching and learning. I should be getting some CLEs for this.)

Why is the murder trial on TV and receiving so my publicity?

Perhasp because S-E-X = ratings?

Not really fair is it:confused: I bet you are not following all the other trials that are going on right now where you live (is this one happening where you live?)...

And the judiciary is one of the branches of gvmt that we can not do much about (well, in Texas we can because we elect the judges)....

In the same vein, have you been keeping track of George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin?

Or how about this new one:confused:
Michael Dunn, Florida Man, Invokes 'Stand Your Ground' Law After Shooting Black Teen

If not, then why not:confused:

Can't avoid the Arias trial here in Az. First story on the news every night....even when there is no court that day. She is a bit creepy if you ask me.

I did not realize those trials were being aired either on TV or the Internet this week. Please provide the links and I'll take a look.

But seriously, I have attended trials in person... many, many criminal trials. (I avoid most civil ones if I can help it.)

I am also a boxing fan. When some major boxing fights happen, I may visit and contribute to a Round-by-Round Forum. That was kinda my original wish here--to create a thread whereby those of us following this trial could post our comments.

With the above said:

The State's cross-examination starts tomorrow.

I am wondering whether the Prosecutor can now bring offer evidence of her stalking, tire slashing, car keying, invading Travis's e-mail, etc.--that he was prohibited by a pre-trial ruling--because the defense "opened the door" with all those text messages of Travis calling Jodi a psycho that they got admitted into evidence during Arias's testimony.

And now that she also claimed on the stand that Travis was a pedophile of sorts (what crap), can the prosecution now bring up her earlier attempts, when she was representing herself, to get admitted into the record forged evidence (supposedly letters he had written to her "admitting" that he was a pedophile). Have police figured out who forged these letters? It looks like this was her earlier attempt to smear the guy's character with false evidence.

Haven't been following the Arias case that closely, but from what I've read she too is a pathological liar.

Here's a thought...Could you imagine if her, Casey Anthony and Van Der Sloot were at the same table? There may not be one honest thing said in the conversation

Good one, I say bring them together along with Nancy Grace for a dinner:LOL:

That would be something. I sure would like to be a fly on that wall. Or maybe not

+1 I haven't really kept up with this trial but from the little bit I've heard and read, it seems to be making headlines due in part to the X rated testimony.

Also, the horrendous manner of the killing. Arias stabbed ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander 29 times--starting when he was naked & vulnerable in the shower as she was taking "Calvin Klein"-type photos, 9 stabs on the back, slit his throat as he crawling down the hallway, then dragged his body back into the shower, where she shot him in the head with a 25 calibre handgun--per the state's theory. See here.

She originally denied to police that she was even in Arizona, but when later faced with photos that she thought she had deleted from the photo shower shoot were recovered from the camera, and proved that she WAS in fact there--with date and time stamps--she changed her story and admitted she was there, but that two intruders killed Travis.

That proved to be a lie too. Now, on trial, she claims she was a victim of physical and sexual abuse by Travis--which is why most of that "sex" testimony has come in--and BTW that he was also a pedophile. Virtually all ringside pundits believe those DV abuser and pedo claims are lies designed to paint victim Travis in the most unfavorable light. (Earlier, she had tried to get into the Court record letters she claimed had been written by Travis, to her, in which he admitted to being a pedo. Forensics proved them to be forgeries.) She now claims that during the shower photo shoot, she accidentally dropped the camera a couple of feet--which was Travis's brand-new camera, and that this got the naked Travis into such a murderous rage that he body-slammed Jodi and threatened to kill her. She got away, found a gun, and yada yada yada.

Jodi Arias faces the death penalty for the cruel way she killed Travis. She now admits killing him, Story #3, but in self-defense, and has testified that she was in a fog and has no memory whatsoever of stabbing Travis 29 times and slitting his throat from ear-to-ear down to the spinal cord after shooting him. Pundits say this "no memory/fog" is a convenient excuse, because if she did remember the incident, she would have to explain detail-by-detail, moment-by-moment, each and every one of the 29 stabs and throat slit to support her affirmative self-defense claim.

Then there are all sorts of pre-meditation facts, to support the Murder 1 charge, too many to mention (you have just got to view YouTube videos of the trial so far)--including gas cans Arias carried in her trunk--that are SO fascinating to those of us who are following this trial. (Me, mostly from a professional POV, as I worked in this field in my past life before I ER'd.)

Currently, the trial is at the stage where the Prosecutor & defense are asking follow-up questions to the jury's 200-plus questions. (Arizona is one of three states where the law mandates that the jury can ask their own questions of witnesses.)

The trial has definitely engendered a lot of passion on Twitter. Trial continues tomorrow with Arias back on the stand, as the Prosecutor continues grilling her. (I follow the online stream here.)
