Laser printer for pictures

I have an HP color laserjet 2600n.

The quality of the printing of pictures is really bad. I do not remember it being this bad before.

Can the ink cartridge be to blame? I have generics but have had them for years. However, I think I got a different brand last time.

Could it be win10? I have had this for awhile also.

I do not print out many pics so I have no idea when/if the quality declined. Just found out because DD was complaining and wanted a new printer.

My experience with printing photos with laser printers is limited, but considering that most are limited to four colors I wouldn't expect much. We have two printers, one a color laser for normal printing and a Canon inkjet photo printer purchased specifically for photos. But photography is a hobby for me, most people probably don't want to deal with two printers and when they want prints just send them to the local drugstore, Walmart, etc.

I have used an HP LaserJet CP2025 for more than 5 years. It has worked flawlessly with HP cartridges. It's been used with Win 7 and Win 10.
