My Dad was from Glasgow. I think that even the Scots consider people from Glasgow to be frugal. We never suffered for it. Things were repaired and other things created that other families never had.

Ironically Mom was the saver (from London). I inherited the desire to fix things and so I take special joy in buying something new because it happens so seldom...

My grandfather had a saying, and I heard it often.

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
