Libre Office 5.0 tutorial book recommendations

I recently purchased new laptop. I bought the laptop from local computer store who sells refurbished computers. Store was able to transfer documents from old computer to new computer. However, Microsoft office 7 was unable to transfer because it was a program.

I have now downloaded Libre Office 5.0, it's free, as replacement for Microsoft office. I am in need of a tutorial book for Libre Office. Suggestions please for tutorial book. Amazon has some choices, don't know which book to choose.

Recommendations please!!

Never had book for it but they have documentation for it at their website and a wiki

https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/...n/Publications

One thing I always did for compatibility is change the default document settings to save as MS office compatible formats

Aren't the open-document 'save as' defaults for LibreOffice already compatible with MS office? IOW, MS Office can read open document formats (.ods, .odt, .odp, etc).

Many years ago, I think someone I emailed said they could not open an .odt in Office, but I think they had a very old version.

Going the other way may be more problematic - Word may do some formatting tricks that LibreOffice may not understand, but I'm pretty sure that anything you do in LibreOffice and save as open doc format should read OK in MS Office.

I think the newer versions of office can open the odf formats but I seem to recall there was some issues in formatting/fonts and such. And there may be some issues depending on what version of ODF is being used.

Also don't have to explain what a .ODT file is to someone you sent the file to....

Yeah, I guess they might need to right click and do an 'open with' or something? I don't know, or is Windows/Office set up to recognize those extensions and just open them?

I suppose it does eliminate any confusion or possible formatting glitches for the recipient to just format them as Windows, I just like trying to spread the 'open source' and 'open document' story when I can.

I'm using libre office with linux. so I opened up my Microsoft onedrive directory and uploaded an .odt spreadsheet. it opened in web excel. no questions asked.

I have not been able to save directly from libre office to onedirve, however. There are some addons for google drive, however.

Microsoft Office 2010 and newer (probably 2007, too) can recognize has automatic association with open document formats.

Excel 2010 doesn't play nice with .ods files, though. Excel sees the files as corrupted and when you allow it to repair the file, you just get the values but all the formulas are gone.
