I mail in my numbers for the entire year via the offered subscription service…usually just for one game and that allows me to "play" regularly without worrying about getting caught up in any frenzy AND, more importantly, I can be part of the rest of the family's excitement….and even dream of what I might do with any winnings

Definition of a government lottery: A tax on people who didn't study their math.

I will play for fun once in a while. I probably don't spend more than $50 in a given year.

I know, if I invested that $50 .....................................

I've only bought lottery tickets once, for a talk I gave to our clients on "Sudden Money" and used them as a fun gag. Only one out of 40 tickets was a winner, for $5.00.

And actually, I sent my husband to get them, because I was afraid of looking like an idiot at the convenience store. He'd never bought one before, either, but he's less afraid of looking stupid in front of convenience store clerks.

I voted I never play. Though years ago, back at w*rk, I'd join in the lotto pool.

I remember one of my co-w*rkers liked to play along with the ponies. One time from pooled money she placed a bet on the Kentucky derby and the entire office ended up getting pizza.

But, I don't gamble

I almost voted "never", but on rare occassions when the jackpot gets very very high, we will buy one or two tickets for the fun of it. Also sometimes when DH has had a more stressful day at w*rk, he'll suggest we should go buy a ticket. But we never do. It has become a sort of joke between us.

I would rather gamble at a casino, since casinos are very altruistic and want to enrich their customers. I know this for a fact because everybody I ever knew who gambled regularly at casinos either 'broke even' or 'won a bit'. Nobody ever lost. Those casino owners are great guys!

I do occasionally put $5 or so into tickets when it gets high. But playing or winning the lottery is just icing on my cake.

Between you and me...I already feel like I won the lottery since I could afford to retire and live a comfortable lifestyle...and not ever have to work for money ever again. What's better than that?

I'll buy one once in a while if I remember and there's no line. Maybe once every other month or so. It's classed under "entertainment" because what I'm buying is daydreams.

Since the only thing I've ever won in my entire life is a free Coke at Jerry's Sub Shop I'd be stunned if I ever won the lottery.

I enjoy buying a few lottery tickets once in awhile. There is always that fantasy of winning a big prize, but I don't have high expectations. And I don't feel guilty or apologize for buying them!

I voted "never." I have spent maybe $20 on lottery tickets in my adult life, going back about 25+ years. Most of that was in office pools but even then I rarely joined them. I felt like an idiot filling out a ticket selection at the local store.

I consider the $300k I "won" by cashing out my company stock leading to my precious ER 5 years ago my "lottery" winnings. +1, Redbugdave!

I'll admit to being a "regular" buyer and voted accordingly. I don't buy every draw, I only buy one ticket personally, and I always am in the office pool which has different buy ins depending on who organized it.

But I am sure I spend maybe $100/year on the entertainment value.

For a year or two I had a "subscription" from the state of MA ($90 for 104 $1 draws IIRC) where I picked the numbers, but lost that option when I moved out of state.

On a similar note, maybe once every 5 years I'll find myself in a casino and I'll gamble $250 or so, mostly blackjack. I think I prefer the lotto, because even though the odds are an almost sure loser, the reward is astronomical enough to spark the imagination. With blackjack, while it has the joys of a game, even if I went on a hot streak it wouldn't change a thing in my lifestyle. While the slots have the aspirational rewards I like, the mechanics of it make me feel like a pure sucker with each pull of the lever.

Not much of a "gambler", but buy a lotto ticket occasionally, and participate in one poker weekend/yr.
