Macbook and secure webpages

I've mostly used PCs and been trained to look for the https: in the URL and the padlock on the bottom right corner of the page. I just noticed that on the Macbook computer when the https: shows up in the URL, I don't see the padlock. Is this just another case of Apple being similar but different just because (where is the equivalent to the padlock??) or what? I did scroll down as far as I could on the page. Thanks.

My Mac using Firefox always shows the padlock in the lower right corner of the browser window.

kaneohe, you need to include some more info, like which browser and which version.

In the Camino browser (1.5.5) on my Mac (10.3.9), the padlock shows up in the address bar.

In the Safari browser (1.3.2), the padlock shows up in the upper right hand corner.

In the FireFox browser (2.0.0.12) it is in BOTH the address bar AND the lower right hand corner.

The writers of the app are free to do this in anyway they see fit. It isn't dependent on the OS.

ERD50----thanks for the info. Just as you said, Safari, upper right hand corner.
Didn't notice it because not observant and black, not gold as in PC. Should have been looking for it in different places than on PC because everything else is like that---similar but different. Appreciate the help!

We won't get into whether HTTPS is really secure. The friendly, inquisitive folks in the NSA aren't talking

I can set up an HTTPS channel between a client and a server using AES as the cipher and you're welcome to crack it if you want.

Why bother when you can just hack the server or the client?
