Made My Wife Happy by Estimating 1 Year Earlier
Most recently our departure estimates were at my age 60.5. That's 3.5 years from now.
Whenever I talked about that with my wife, she was a little cold. Not too enthusiastic. I could not figure out why.
Yesterday I did another ESPlanner model, this time with us departing at my 59.5. Since these looked favorable, I told her, and yesterday I got a hug before she left for work. That's not her normal morning behavior....
Now I know how to make my wife happy - join the ranks of the newly retired as soon as we can.
It's because of all the advice and guidance from this group and from bogleheads forum that we'll be able to retire with confidence. So thank you all for everything you've done for us!!
The only remaining thing is if we go in 2017 whether I'll need to change my screen name to IThought2019.....Or some other iteration.

Just think what she might do if things really go well and you can retire even a year earlier than 59.5 at 58.5!  Good luck, I know how those last 2-3 years seem to go and can certainly feel for ya.

It was eye opening to me to see that my numbers worked NOW - vs the 2 years from now I planned. So I obsessively ran every calculator I could find - just to make sure.... and all came up with the green light. So I pulled the cord.
I hope you experience the same epiphany I did. That will make your wife VERY happy.

I have noticed that the numbers work particularly well right now. My DW has noticed as well. When I mention any concern over longevity risk, she simply advises me that I'm not as immortal as I believe.
I think you all may have a point.

How true. While my plan has the both of us living to 100 because I dislike the taste of dog food, it seems unlikely that either one of us makes it that far. To be honest, seeing the quality life of some old folk, I'm not sure if I would want to if that was my future.

Yes, you are right. These last few years are rather tough. We very much look forward to the future and it's hard to wait.
