Marion Jones and steroids.
Track star Marion Jones pleads guilty to doping lies - CNN.com
This is no surprise to many in the track and field world. Way back 15 years ago when she was in college there was always rumor that she was using the juice. It really is a shame, she would have been fantastic without it. We saw her in High School and she ran 11.0 then!!!
What people will do to win.
Humans we really are mortal.

The news reports weren't totally clear on this, let me know if I understood correctly:
1. When she took the steroids, she didn't know what they were (thought she was just getting flaxseed oil).
2. But later, after winning the medals, she learned the truth, and at that point, lied and said that she had not taken steroids.

If you read the Balco book (can't remember the real title), this "revelation" is absolutely no surprise and you have no doubt that Bonds was using steriods.

Attacking African American women from the South who have success is uncalled for. She is a victim and has problems. Use the due care process that Rich_In_Tampa explained so well.
"Would you use the same comments in the presence of her and her kind, were his words."
Racism it appears, is alive and well just like the guy who posted the "Buddameouk" crap.

Rich,
Sorry for not providing the source but it was your very appropriate remark in response to the "Buddameouk" thread.
As a Moderator Emeritus, I'm hoping your access to records is still open to find the quote. You were quite indignant about the offense caused by the thread as I recall.

Well, she definitely has problems. It is not clear to me how she is a victim of anything other than her own devices.

She missed a golden opportunity to keep, or even improve, her reputation. What if, as soon as she found out, post-medals, that the stuff she'd been given hadn't been flax seed oil, she'd called a press conference and explained that she'd been duped, she's giving back all her medals, and she's sorry that she wasn't more inquisitive about her treatments.
She would have become an uber-hero.

I'm always surprised when society expects public figures with incredible money and fame performance in an entertainment area, like sports or rock music, to display equally incredibly high standards of honor & ethics.
They're just entertainers surrounded by hordes trying to make a buck off them. They don't exactly have a lot of heroes of their own to look up to...

One good thing: in about three years, A-Rod will surpass BB's bogus record.

Yea Marion has had a fall from grace. It is too bad. She was young and made some bad decisions. Plus, she probably could have won some of those metals anyway.
Kind of sad. Hopefully she will be able to pick herself up and move on with her life.
