Yes, I prefer my back up SW to not do anything other than just copy it. I just don't trust it to do anything fancy with it. I know too many people who thought they were backed up... until they actually had to recover something.

Again, until you know what is 'junk' and what isn't, you better keep that 'junk'. When I'm ready to do some clean-out, I do a total backup first, and keep that archived for at least a year - just in case.

I think you are right about the iPod being one-way (probably work-arounds though, but easiest to just keep the library).

I have two computers and my iPod will not transfer all the music files to the "other" computer.

I transfered files using a flash drive on CFB's recommendation. It was easy and believe me, I need easy.

Applications don't transfer in part because it probably would violate the terms of the license you have for the software.
