We were at the movies tonight and saw Burn after reading and we got talking about movies and I do not remember any notable movies this year . So I'm wondering were there any that you found notable ?

The young wife and I went to see The Secret Life of Bees on Tuesday. I thought it was a very good movie, and she said it was true to the book. Definitely a "girl" movie though -- no car chases and nothing gets blown up.

We also saw the Spike Lee film Miracle at St. Anna about a month ago, which I thought was also quite good.

I watched a lot of incredible movies in the submarine force (not in an Oscar-winning way, either) and I think that "Dark Knight" is one of the creepiest and best-executed adaptations I've ever seen...

I enjoyed WALL-E. It's an animated Disney flick, but has a lot of wisdom about our culture's focus on "stuff" and lack of physical activity.
I wasn't going to see it, but so many people told me it was good that I went. I'm glad I did.

Great music in the Indiana Jones flick, good ole John Williams again. I liked "W," very good acting. Plan to see 007 and especially the Harvey Milk movie because of local interest, I remember those times so well. Josh Brolin who played W also plays Dan White--what do you make of that?

I don't see many movies, but I got hold of a copy of Zombie Strippers. It wasn't as good as The Evil Dead, but it had its moments. An all star cast (Jenna Jameson, ummm, some other people, and that guy that played Freddie), and lots of gratuituous violence and nudity. I heartily don't recommend it to normal people.

Definately a feel good movie, and Pierce Brosnan in a jump suit is not to be missed!

Looks good - but I still think it isn't a true zombie movie if the zombies move fast.

Ah, but they cover that in the movie. The zombie virus is tied (somehow) to the x chromosome. Therefore the zombie chicks can talk, dance, and move fast. The guy zombies stumble around eating brains just like in real life.

Master and Commander: Far Side of the World -- so so.

The Girl Next Door -- not so good.

Spy Game -- pretty good.

I watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, free from the library. Really a funny movie.

Up until recently the movies have not been very good. However we just saw two excellent movies. The boy in the striped pajamas was excellent. A look at the holocaust thru the eyes of an eight year-old, based on a book by the same name. Slumdog Millionaire was also very good. Based in India, the story of a boy doing what he has to do get by, Oliver Twist-like, and ends up on the Indian version of Who wants to be a millionaire show.

I hate to admit it but I've always like zombie and end of days type movies. Must have been due to too many years working for the feds. The Evil Dead was great but I also liked 28 Days Later quite a bit. Natch, the zombie movie genre is ruled by the Romero Dead movies.

T-Al, thanks for mentioning hulu.com. I will definitely sign up for it----it's definitely the right price (free as far as I can see).

But here comes a clueless question for Al---or anyone else. When you record a television show or movie from the computer, do you have to record it onto your hard drive and watch on your computer or onto a DVD to watch on your television?

I use the s-video jack on my laptop, send that to the DVR, and record it there. It can be tricky to get things working the first time.

Here are my notes on how to accomplish this (I have to refer to them each time):

Set up s-video cable:

Attach cable ("e" in cable is at the top)

Choose display properties, settings. Set the resolution for display #2 to 1024 x 768. Right click on the 2 screen, and choose Attached. Click Apply.

If things don't work unattach it and start again. Make sure cable is plugged in.

Set DVR to L2 (you should see the screen saver image)

Connect laptop audio out to MD tape in
Connect amplifier headphones to L2 audio in on DVR
Set volume to max (63)
Make sure volumes are maxed out on the computer (hulu volume and computer volume)

Make sure laptop is plugged in via 3-prong (no ground)

Turn off deskalarm

Press Record on DVR

Start Movie
Put hulu window over on tv screen
click full screen
