Moving question

My DW and I should be relocating from TX. to Fla. around October 1st. We have sold our house and have limited amount of stuff to move.

Our belongings would only take up a fraction of a moving van. I considered a trailer, but that would mean we would have to handle 1 heavy love seat, queen size bed, mattress and box spring, washer and dryer, rolling tool chest, big screen TV, and assorted boxes and other small furniture (chairs, tables etc.). We really don't have much help on this end, and no help on the other.

Any ideas??

Hire movers on both ends to load and unload the trailer. This is not much different than hiring a nationwide company to move you. The only difference is that you'll be driving the load down versus them. The movers on each end don't travel with the load.

Traveling Oct 1 is hurricane season especially by FL and states around Gulf of Mexico. I would track weather before moving. You don't want to be on I-10 if the weather is really bad. Parts of the interstate is above the water.

Seems the easiest solution, assuming you have a vehicle capable of towing the the trailer size you need. Slight variation is the PODS type containers that you pack then the PODS company moves to your new location. Same thing, get some help with the loading and unloading at each end. U-haul has lists of moving help, can also search craigslist and find loading/unloading help.

Last time I moved to a new state, I wished I had sold all but my two gorgeous sofas and a few favorite pieces of small furniture and left the armoire, mattress, box spring, dining set, and armchairs behind. It would have been cheaper to buy new nice furniture than pay for the old pieces to be moved.

I believe U-Haul will provide people to load and unload at your new place. I have seen it mentioned in their office, but have not priced it out.

DD and DBIL had similar situation. They used U-Haul portable containers. You can either pick up the pod if you have a tow vehicle or they can deliver. The U-Box is 8' long, 5' wide and 7 1/2' tall and will hold a lot of stuff if you pack judiciously.

Sounds like you would need one or possibly two.

They packed one pod for their initial move into a apartment and then another later when they moved into a house.

Yes, if you contact a full service UHaul location (as opposed to a convenience store that does UHaul as a sideline) they can assist in having people at either or both ends of the move. Did this when my daughter moved out of our CT home down to Baltimore. Worked out really well.

There are other companies that do the same thing, for a small fraction of the price. Make sure to take a look at their competitors in your area.

I had a college nearby, so I phoned them and they had a pile of students looking for work.
I needed 2 students, so I hired 4, and three actually showed up, so work went quickly, and they were really strong and good.
I paid them, and tipped them well as I was so pleased.

Use ABF for their trucks for the transportation part. Go on Yelp or similar to find a crew at origin and at destination to do load/unload. If you're up for it, do the packing in-home yourself.

It's been about 10 years, but I used them a couple of times, each time they gave me a section of a full size semi. Other folk's stuff was also in the trailer, but that wasn't any kind of issue.
