Moving to Costa Rica

Anybody have any thoughts on moving to Costa Rica?

I've a friend who moved to Mexico City and abosolutely loves it. Had to do some crash course language learning to get along smoothly, but he tells me he's living like a king on his SS.

He's got a few concerns about health care, but don't we all these days.

Re: Moving to Costa Rica

Everything I have read and heard lately concerning living in Costa Rica, suggests that it is now not much of a bargain. I am on other boards with expates who have moved from Costa Rica to Mexico, and find Mexico now more reasonable in terms of streatching the dollar. Mexico City happens to be one of the most expensive areas you can live in Mexico, and also has the biggest crime problem. There are other areas of Mexico more to the liking of most who have traveled Mexico exptensively, and settled there.

But I guess I am off subject here, as I guess from your edited post you must be advocating Costa Rica for some reason. Anyway, thought I'd give my input.

Re: Moving to Costa Rica

Costa Rica still has a big price advantage over the USA and Canada pricewise but it's no longer really super cheap. However you get more in Costa Rica for those dollars than you might other places, like the fact you can drink the water and a fairly well developed legal system that protects foreigners who invest and treats them fairly equally. Neither of which Mexico can claim.

Of course I live there part of the year so am biased as you can tell from my Costa Rica Travel Blog. But there's a couple articles on there about who it's right for and who it's not...
