Purron, I'm so sorry to hear this about your kitty. Losing a family member is so hard. Heck I'm crying just thinking about what you're going through. You've clearly given your cat the best life he could possibly have had. When the time comes you can let him go knowing you have done your best.

So sorry, Purron--give her some scritchies from me.

I had a dream last night about our last dog who left us three years ago--it was wonderful.

Peace to you at this difficult time. As my vet has said too many times, sometimes all we have left to give our dear pets is a good end. We lost our good sheep Tess at 14 just two weeks ago and I still listen for her footsteps on the stairs, coming up to demand to be let in the house. Never gets easier, but I know there will be a crowd waiting for both of us at the Rainbow bridge, my friend.

So sorry to hear about your kitty, Purron. It is so hard to see your pet decline like that. We were lucky, our previous cat lived quite happily for 5 more years after being diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 13. It required almost daily IV injections which we faithfully administered, but there is so much you can do to delay the inevitable. Two years ago, she suddenly stopped eating. She died within a week. She knew it was the end, you could see it in her eyes. It was a terrible thing to witness. But so is the cycle of life. You cry, you mourn, you move on but you never forget.

Purron,
Sorry to hear about your cat. He's a beautiful cat. I have a cat and dog around 15 yrs of age. My dog had to be rushed to the vet a couple of weeks ago. She came home later that day. But I was crushed driving her there. I thought for sure that I would not be bringing her home. As it turns out her glucose was too low and the vet reduced the level of insulin I give her. I watch both of them closely as they are both rather old and on meds.

He gained weight and was very happy and healthy.

Unfortunately, he has declined again. Today I received the devastating news that he is unlikely to live much longer and it's best not to try any more medical interventions. I'll spare you the depressing details, but suffice it to say this kitty has used up all of his 9 lives.

The only thing to do now is watch him and try to determine when it's time to have him put to sleep. Right now, it's not so bad and he has a decent quality of life. My vet thinks he will decline rather quickly and we may be looking a week or two, but you know how these things are.

Everyone here has been so wonderful during this experience. I know many of you have gone through this with your pets and understand.

Bless you all.
Sorry to hear about this...... We had a 10-year old gray tabby that got liver problems. It ended up being liver cancer and he declined rather quickly because there was nothing we could do.

The last day of his life, he was too sick to even raise his head. My wife and I both decided we needed to have him put down rather than have him suffer anymore...lots of tears that day........

Finance Dude - Yours was only 10? My kitty is 12. If there is a heaven for cats, I'd like to imagine these two romping together like they did when they were young kits. Also, since you reminded me of how threads are useless without pictures:

I can understand how you feel. I´ve had my Tina for only 3 months and had to neuter her yesterday. I never thought I would worry so much. And miss her.... the 24 hours she had to stay at the vet´s.
Everything is going to be allright with your tiger!

Well, he's still hanging in there. About three months ago my vet gave him about 2 weeks to live. Well, you know how cats are. They never follow orders. My vet and I decided the best thing is just to leave him be. I consider him to be in kitty "hospice care". No more surgeries, biweekly blood tests and other stuff that just made him miserable but did little to cure his ailing liver. Just all the fancy feast he wants and lots of attention. Here he is today sunning himself on the sofa. Skinny but still lovin' life. We can learn a thing or two from our pets. Take each moment and enjoy it while you can.

Aw, what a sweetie. I am glad he has a "Momma" like you to take good care of him, to love him, and to make sure he has plenty of Fancy Feast too!

Much to be said for quality of life. Here's to Fancy Feast and anything else his little heart desires!

Take comfort in knowing what a good life you have given him. He is obviously well loved.
