That's awful. I adopted my first dog a few months ago and dread the day I have to make that decision. I agree that it sometimes feels like a chore to take care of them, but they can also be great companions. Sorry for your family's loss.

Sorry to hear the sad news, Vincente. Our pets are always our family members, too.

Sometimes I think we were crazy with the kids almost grown starting over with another pet by adopting a rescue dog, but he is the new baby we fuss over, cuddle and take to the park.

I've always been a dog person and having a pet helps makes a life worth living IMO. I don't see much difference between the argument that one wouldn't want a dog because they only live 15 years and having human companionship because they only live 80 years. I've said goodbye to a few of both species over the years and was glad to know them in the brief time we had.

Each of our dogs has been fantastic company in their own unique ways. I can't imagine living a life without man's best friend.

Sorry for your loss. I too like dogs, but I like ones that belong to other people. That way I can pet them and give them back to their owner

I have had multiple rescue dogs most of my life. With anywhere from 3 to 5 canaine companions at a time sad days come every few years. It still hurts a lot but we get consolation in knowing that we shared many wonderful years with each of them. We also have the other dogs to share our grief with and love. Invariably within a few months we find another rescue to bring into the family and the cycle continues.
