Ralphs at it again.

So does he bring in new voters, or draw them away from one (or both) of the other leading candidates?

I don't think he'll pull enough Democratic votes to make a difference this time. For Democrats who think the mainstream candidate isn't liberal enough, the pain of their Nader votes in 2000 still sticks in their craw. I doubt many will repeat that mistake.

There really is something wrong with anyone who votes for Nadar the guy is an egomaniac and quite frankly a real worthless addition to the political process.

No one can ever predict just how close a race will be. Who'd have "thunk" that only about 500 votes in Florida could have turned a national election?

I'd also have to say IMHO that this is the poorest choice in candidates since '76 when it was Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. I voted for Ford but didn't feel good about it and I'll vote for McCain this time but I'll do so by early voting... not gonna stand in line for him like I did for Reagan! :)

And the rest of them aren't egomaniacs?

I would not vote for him because of his politics.

Nader is merely getting some press on issues he thinks are important. He probably wants to get into the debates.

The great thing about our country is that he can run.

I did not vote in the poll because I am still undecided.

I have no idea what Nader is thinking, other than selling more books. Total egomaniac, but he always has been. It's now been shown that the Corvair was as safe or safer than other cars of the time. Maybe he's jealous of the Obama fever? In 2000 he got 3.7% of the vote, in 2004 he got less than a half %. The demo machine will prevent him from getting on a lot of ballots, so I suspect his best news day will be today.

As a moderate republican, I personally am happy with my choices this year. :)

Edit: cross post, good point Chinaco. Running the gauntlet of politics takes among other things, a lot of self-absorption.

I don't understand what drives the guy, but I am certain that Progressives will not repeat the mistake we made in 2000 by wasting our votes on Nader. As centrist as the two Democratic candidates are, they are both infinitely better than four more years of Republican rule. I do not believe that we will ever see a viable Socialist candidate in my life, so the best I can do is try to push the Democrats (and the country as a whole) in that direction.

As centrist as the two Democratic candidates are.....

Wow! I believe I read somewhere that Obama has an American Conservative Union voting record of 0%. Care to share with us the name of who your ideal Democratic candidate would be?

What happened to Hillary in your poll? Have you already decided she's out?

Compared to Nader, they are centrist. Compared to most others, they are liberal. Guess, it depends on your definition of centrist.

Obama was listed as the most liberal Democratic Senator in 2007. His record appears to have become more liberal with each year in office.

If you look at his website, he seems to be very intent on starting up a bunch of new giveaways.

Hillary is very Liberal also. There apparently is little policy difference between the two.

If Obama get the Democratic nomination, the Republicans will go after his record for sure.

Eugene V. Debs

Actually, Dennis Kucinich was closer to me politically, but I think Obama will better address the process/systemic problems that we need to overcome in this country.

Whatever your opinion of the current crop of candidates is, you have to admit the country has taken a turn to the left. I was surprised to see the right wing of the GOP rally around a former Massachusetts governor with pro-choice, pro-gay rights stances in his record as the party savior.

As far as your point quietman, what's being under-reported in the media is Clinton is just about mathematically eliminated. She needs to get more than 65% of the vote in the states she can win (Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania etc.) to catch up in delegates due to the Demo's apportioning rules. To get that in one of the states, much less all of them, would take pics of Obama with Obama-girl (see youtube) or something like that. But the media likes the horse race.

Unsafe at Any Speed is often characterized as the book "about the Corvair", though only one of the book's eight chapters covers the Corvair. The theme of tire pressures chosen for comfort rather than safety is recurrent, and the main theme throughout is the way in which the motor industry evades even well-founded and technically informed criticism.

Each of the book's chapters covered a different aspect of automotive safety:

  • Chapter 1: The sporty Corvair
  • Chapter 2: Disaster deferred
  • Chapter 3: The second collision
  • Chapter 4: The power to pollute
  • Chapter 5: The engineers
  • Chapter 6: The stylists
  • Chapter 7: The traffic safety establishment
  • Chapter 8: The coming struggle for safety
"The sporty Corvair"

The subject for which the book is probably most widely known is covered in the first chapter, General Motors' Chevrolet Corvair. The chapter is subtitled "The One-Car Accident". The 19601963 Corvairs had a rear engine and a suspension design which was prone to "tuck under" in certain circumstances and which required drivers to maintain proper tire pressures which were outside of the tire manufacturer's recommended tolerances for the tire. The tires had an unusually high front:rear differential (15psi front, 26psi rear, when cold; 18 psi and 30psi hot). The tire pressures were more critical than for most contemporaneous designs, but this was not made explicitly clear to salespeople or owners. According to the standards laid down by the Tire and Rim Association, the relevant industry body, the pressures also rendered the tires overloaded when there were two or more passengers on board. An unadvertised at-cost option (#696) included upgraded springs and dampers, front anti-roll bars and rear axle rebound straps to prevent tuck-under. Aftermarket kits were also available, such as the EMPI Camber Compensator, for the knowledgeable owner. The suspension design was modified for the 1964 model year, just far enough ahead of publication to allow its inclusion in the book; most significantly a second, outboard constant velocity joint was added to maintain a constant camber angle at the wheels. Corvairs from 1965 on were of this type and did not suffer the characteristic tuck-under crashes.

I kind of like Obama-girl. If Obama wants to use her in campaign pictures or for a VP, count me in. He can have my vote on that basis alone.

We'll add you to the Obama "charmed" pool.

Go Ralph!! Some people believe that this election is about CHANGE. Ralph is the CHANGE candidate we can count on. He's the only can.did.ate that isn't in the back pocket of the CORPORATE INTERESTS.

I hope no one falls into the trap of just voting for a candidate who is already popular. You've only got one vote, one chance to honestly tell THE SYSTEM who you want to be President. Vote your conscience! Anyway, you can bet the mainstream media (all owned by megacorps) will suppress the poll numbers in the coming weeks, making it look like Ralph is not really popular. DO NOT BELIEVE IT!

Vote your conscience--Nader in '08!! In your heart, you know he's right! (to borrow a line)

Ok, Ok. It's change we can count on. But is it change we can believe in?

Why has he not run for say a senator or congressman or heck Dog Catcher:confused:

If he really wanted to help the system and change the system he should have started there.

I suspect that Nadar is the best thing conservatives could have hoped for. He will siphon off some protest votes from the fringe Democrats. Doesn't take much in a close race.
