Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
By the way, I noticed you mentioned speakers in the OP.
These are sort of interesting looking. Low lumens though...

Speakers and a dvd player built-in.
Might snag one of these come summer time. We can drop it on the table out on the patio, throw in a dvd and watch a movie on the side of the house...

See if you can get this to add to your cart in your neck of the woods. Dont buy it for 'in store pickup' or it gets more expensive.

It worked fine after the last software/firmware update. I had been using the wired card that came with it, but poped in an old 16bit Prism 802.11b card I had kicking around, and it works fine...... without WEP. Using WEP, the encryption overhead is just too much, and the bandwidth isn't there for video- this is why I have a wireless DMZ setup just for this stupid player. As I said, i'm looking to replace it with the LinkPlayer.

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
I have been reading a few reviews on the Optima EP719. It is a 'true' 728 x 1024. Many folks were commenting that they had the 716 and took it back and got the 719 instead. Huge improvment. But it's gonna cost me $1000.
i'll have to see if my local costco has it!

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
Good place to buy it. If it smokes a bulb 10 months from now you can take it back and get another one.

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
Here is our little guy, Infocus DLP setup maybe about a year old ($1700 then). Less than 4 pounds. I forget the lumen strength (1200?). It has survived several Europe-Japan-Taiwan-Korea customer visits, including being stuffed in checked baggage . Tough beast. Never had a bulb problem, even with the older system we had.

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
I think I may have settled on the Optoma ep719 for about $950. Unless someone can talk me out of it.
1024 x 768 - 2000 lumens and 2500:1 Contrast Ratio.

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
DLP with a slower color wheel, so maybe someone sees a rainbow. Other than that a bright well regarded projector that I see a number of people on AVSforum are happy with. Where ya getting it from? If costco then two thumbs up, you cant go wrong. Otherwise make sure you can take it back for a refund if any of your buds see rainbows.

BTW, I don't know anything about LTPs. The only thing I recall that projected my
laptop was named Shirley. I was about 14 at the time.

Re: Need Laptop Projector Recommendations.....................
So the last time your 'laptop projected' was about 45 years ago?
Sounds about right...
