+1 Usually the best come from ITV, this one is a Netflix Original. Excellant series.

We've been watching the Last Kingdom on Netflix.

If you have any interest in the Saxon kingdoms of England, the Danish (Viking) invasion and pagan Danelaw vs. Christian Wessex (the last kingdom), this is a neat period immersion. Very entertaining and educational. 800s England.

And very nice eye candy playing lead role young Saxon Prince/adopted Dane character.

They do this really cool thing where they show the old English name for a town and morph it into the modern name. Like Wintanceastre to Winchester.

The older (Anglian) name for York was Eoforwic. Picking off Saxon kingdoms, the Danes first invaded Northumbria in 866 and this is where the series begins.

I also wish that we had separate lists for the streaming providers (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) and individual movie rentals via the internet. I plow through the list of suggestions only to find that I can't locate the streaming source. I really would like to use the suggestions but often am so frustrated about where to find a particular show or movie - I just give up.

There is a separate thread for Prime movies, here http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...ons-80219.html There have also been multiple suggestions for members to post the streaming source, but people do forget.

You could spring for a Roku (worth it, IMHO) - it shows the streaming sources (at least the ones it has knowledge of - 20 of them right now, all of the biggies) of your search terms (title, actor, etc.) and how much it costs, or if free, on each.

Apple TV 4 will also search across streaming sources to find your movie or show.

I liked the somewhat similar Happy Valley more. Marcella introduces many characters that appear only briefly for plot lines that go nowhere, actors that look confusingly like others, as well as major plot elements that are left unanswered and therefore appear to be significant plot holes.

I love Happy Valley. We also love Scott and Bailey, written by the same author. It has 4 seasons on Hulu, and you may be able to find it on YouTube.

I pay very little for the streaming services, and can tolerate shows that are less than award winners. I am not sure if this one has future seasons.

When I unpacked roku and saw the Netflix and Amazon buttons on the remote...

Last Chance U

At the recommendation off the blog of our local newspaper, I started watching Last Chance U. Kind of interesting.

It's a documentary series on a successful southern junior college football program that recruits division 1 type players that have run into problems with their big name programs. This school (one of many) is kind of their last shot at getting back to a division 1 program to continue their dreams of a professional career. It's kind of a football version of Hoop Dreams.

Definitely!!

But that's on Starz. Not Netflix.

Starz is available for subscription though AppleTV or through Amszon Prime.

Season Three of Black Mirror will be coming to Netflix on Oct 21st! I can't wait! Surely one of the most compelling yet totally creepy things I've ever watched. Each episode is a standalone so you can pick and choose. Definitely skip the gross royal one with the pig, and the best one of the earlier seasons is White Christmas.
