Nick Reynolds of Kingston Trio Dead at 75

Just picked up the sad news that Nick Reynolds (tenor guitar), one of the founding members of the Kingston Trio, passed away in San Diego. That leaves only Bob Shane still alive. Dave Guard (banjo) died many years ago and his replacement John Stewart died in January.

Good evening for a few stiff drinks and dusting off my complete collection of their work, in vinyl, and firing up the vacuum tube "stereo" system.

Was he still touring? I heard on the radio yesterday that the Kingston Trio as well as the Brothers Four are to appear in a local Indian Casino this weekend.

No, Nick last appeared with the Trio in 1999 leaving Bob Shane as the last founder touring. And Bob has now retired as well. The group that will playing in your area consists of Bill Zorn, George Grove & Rick Dougherty. George Grove is actually the second longest member of the group, behind Bob Shane, since other members came and went over the years.

I was a huge fan of the original group in the 60's and learned to play guitar listening to their albums....... played over and over until they started to turn white. My Gibson J45 is still under the bed in the spare room, unplayed for quite a while now.
