Nissan test drivers use the "old suit"

http://www.reuters.com/news/pictures...yName=News#a=1

I guess this could also be filed under the tagline "You could learn a lot from ..." eh, never mind.

I've read about this but I've never seen one before. The body gear can be figured out from the photos but I've read that the glasses are scratched, fogged, and colored yellow/orange to simulate the effects of macular degeneration & cataracts. The suit probably includes earplugs, too, or at least an iPod cranked up to classic rock.

I don't know where the cell phone & latte go. Maybe they use velcro strips to affix one hand to an ear and the other to a Starbucks mug.

Seems like a high-tech solution looking for a problem. I wonder if car designers could save R&D expenses (and get better data) by actually hiring these people instead of trying to simulate their diminished capabilities.

Or maybe Nissan couldn't find any test drivers willing to ride along with them...
