I'm not a medical doctor, but I played a mechanic in real life.* A mechanic would replace something and charge you for it, even if he found nothing.* Pray that your doctor isn't a surgeon.

CT, you always have the option of being your own mechanic. I'll even buy the scalpel for you if you want.

Re: A question for Medical Doctors on the forum............

Hell, $428 for all that? A bargain at half the price.

Sounds like you've got an honest, if expensive, doctor mechanic. Imagine if he had not run the tests and something dreadful happened that could have been prevented -- like a leak in the gas tank, or maybe plugged up tubes leading to the fuel pump. Betcha would have been pretty unhappy with him.

Sounds like you have an honest, if expensive, mechanic -- not easy to say "I don't know." Might be worth hanging on to .

Sorry to hear you're having issues - hope all ends well with your health vehicle.

PS: Smooth, long finish, nicely balanced, with a hint of troll .

PPS: PM me if you really would like to get some sincere feedback (no charge ) on your situation.

Re: A question for Medical Doctors on the forum............

As some one whose health has been ruined and insurance shaken down by doctors treating conditions I didn't even have, I'm actually going to take the Dr's side on this one (I think, anyway).

You don't pay the dr for "doing something" necessarily. You pay him for his knowledge. His insight. You think something might be serious but you can;'t always knpow, so you see the MD. If he says, not to worry it's only a minor "owie" (Did I spell that right?) It'll go away by itself. Well, THAT is the kind of thing you pay him for.

So, even tho these situations are always irritating... I'd pay it.

C-T,

Ya gotta watch more "House"! :

Seriously--consider the Mayo for a diagnosis. If it was good enough for Alistaire Cooke, self-confessed hypochondriac who kept working until 95, right up until he died, it ought to be OK for us blokes. I understand they have outstanding diagnosticians. If nothing else, they fish, too, I hear.

I have to say that I agree as well... Better to have him say "let's wait and see, based on the information that the tests gave" than to have him start taking out organs... OTOH there is nothing stopping you from getting another opinion.

Although we must rely on the doctor's knowledge, this is still a partnership with your health. You can research your symptoms,* http://www.retireearlylifestyle.com/...m_websites.htm,* find another doctor with different experience, and meanwhile, start keeping a log/journal on symptoms and responses to your lifestyle (food, exercise, sleep patterns, alcohol, caffeine, stress, etc.) to see if there is a pattern. This gives you something concrete you can do (giving you a sense of control) and could possibly enlighten the next doctor you see.

I wish you the best in this... It stinks when you don't feel well.* *:P

I think you should go back there and demand that your fuel injection nozzles be power flushed at 2500PSI and your entire exhaust system removed, sanded, acid washed and replaced with quarter inch bolts, nuts and lockwashers.

Stat!

CFB, I think your diagnosis is close, but a little too extreme. All C-T needs is to have his wing nuts tightened up a bit. Not sure if it's a problem with his Right Wing Nut or his Left Wing Nut, so he needs to have both of them torqued to be sure.

That should do him until his 100,000 mile check-up.

Now that you mention it, I do see the problem.

Two left wing nuts, no right wing nuts.

Someone must have removed the latter and sent it to the white house.

You don't need a mechanic if you have a wife: just ask her to fiddle around with your gear stick (your knob may need re-screwing), and even if that doesn't fix things you'll still feel better about it.

Re: A question for Medical Doctors on the forum............

The only time I ever disputed a medical charge.

Ran to get the phone and kicked the edge of a set of weights. Little toe swelled up and turned black and blue. I taped it to the rest of the foot.

Went to the doctor. Said "what does it look like"... "a broken toe"..."is that the worst it could be"..."yeah, pretty much".

So he took x-rays, poked and prodded, said "Yep...its broken...what we want to do is tape that to the rest of the foot until it heals. Heres your bill for $200". (This was around 25 years ago, hence the $200 to $428 inflationary adjustment for unnecessary/indeterminate work.

I told him on the spot that I wouldnt be paying it...if the worst thing it could be was what I already thought it was, and I had already taken the appropriate actions, there wasnt any need to run up a $200 bill on a kid with no insurance.

So why didn't you stop him there and not let him take the x-rays etc?
