Novel Use for Dryer Sheets

I can't resist posting this . . . a novel use for dryer sheets! I can't vouch for this, but a fellow on another board I frequent swears it works . . . his post in relevant part:

No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes
away.

We have no mosquitoes where I presently live so I'd love to know whether it actually works.

We don't have any mosquitoes either but I would be interesting in hearing if this works.

I know it's heresy, but dryer sheets are pretty toxic. The fragance component coats your clothes and the heat of the dryer gets the toxins into the air. If you have any sort of allergy problems, there are other ways to destatic your clothing.

Personally, I don't use them or room deoderizers, and I certainly wouldn't be carrying one around in my pockets. You are basically coating your clothes and skin with petroleum residue.

Just my $.02. But I would recommend some independent research.

Re: Novel Use for Dryer Sheets

I lost respect for my brother-in-law when he told me that if you nail a plastic baggie, with water, above a door, that flies won't enter.

Bags of Water

One of the most effective home remedies to get rid of flies involves hanging clear plastic bags of water near outdoor entryways. This might sound like a ridiculous way to get rid of flies, but people who live on farms, and those who operate fruit stands use this home remedy to get rid of flies on a regular basis.

There is more than one theory behind this home remedy, and the first theory hinges on the natural instincts and the poor eyesight of flies. Clear bags of water are said to cast images that to a fly resemble spider webs, and flies steer clear of anything that resembles a web. The other theory claims the reflection of the water disorients flies, and this illusion is said to be an effective way to get rid of flies and greatly control their numbers. Whatever the reason, this home remedy is said to really work.

Simply fill gallon size bags of water about halfway full, and hang the bags outdoor areas where flies are a problem. Suspend the bags near entryways, garage doors, and anywhere else files seem to graze. According to this home remedy, you’ll notice a great reduction in the fly population almost immediately.

Re: Novel Use for Dryer Sheets

actually the dryersheet thing does work for Mayflies Not sure if they have those everywhere or not. I used to be in the lawn care business when I was in High School and a dryer sheet in the back of your hat sure kept them away. Not sure about mosquitoes

www.snopes.com says the dryer sheets do not work on misquitoes or ants, but did work to a certain degree on the other things.

Someone in your neighborhood must have a dryer sheet in their pocket!
