Do Single Women Seek Attached Men? - TierneyLab Blog - NYTimes.com

"Now there’s experimental evidence that single women are particularly drawn to other people’s partners, according to a report in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology by two social psychologists, Melissa Burkley and Jessica Parker of Oklahoma State University."

Cool!
I dug out my "The Bonnie Raitt Collection" CD, barcode 7599-26242-2. Song is called Women Be Wise.
It was a duet from a live broadcast from the Great America Music Hall in SF in 1976. The other singer was Sippie Wallace, a name unfamiliar to me.

Wow! The black woman sounds hotter than Bessie Smith. It's out of print, but I just ordered a used copy. Thanks for posting this!

That would have been the Great Alberta Hunter.

So who is Sippie Wallace ?
Anyway, this CD must be played at very loud volume. It is some of her best.

Women Be Wise always caught my attention, because it is so true! Not all women are like this, but all it takes is one in the crowd. I think it's a power thing borne out of insecurity.

Wow! What an incredible song. Janis Joplin missed one. for sure.

Anyway, a lot of folks sang it.. Even Wynonna couldn't ruin it.

Maybe the single women were attracted to men in relationships figuring most of the "bugs" had been worked out. Ok, fling tomatoes at me guys...but remember, I haven't been single for 32+ years. What do I know?

I suppose they just took the gals' word for it, that they were single or unattached?

Just on my own one-time experience when I was dating a young "lady" who I later found out was cheating on her then-boyfriend with me I dumped her. I figured that if she'd to that to him she'd do it to me. "Sayonara, honey."

As they always say: if she'll cheat on him, she'll cheat on you! And vice-versa. Got a friend learning that hard lesson right now.

OK, I am not the Keeper Of The Sole Universal Truth here, but in my humble opinion a woman would have to be desperate to date a married man! Either that, or she doesn't mind sharing, or her self esteem is so low that she thinks she has no choice about it.

So maybe I just don't GET it but that is my thinking on this issue.

RonBoyd, I love the Everly Brothers! Thanks. And if you listen to their words, it's not all lovey-dovey... "Some people don't understand. They think loving is money in the hand."

Definitely Sippie Wallace. I'm glad because that is who I was sure I remembered seeing with Bonnie Raitt in the early 80's. Still a few good memory cells left:

Sippie Wallace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In 1971 Raitt recorded a rendition of Sippie Wallace's "Women Be Wise" on her self-titled album Bonnie Raitt. Wallace toured and recorded with Raitt in the 1970s and 1980s, while continuing to perform on her own.[7] The bond between Wallace and Raitt helped bridge the gap between two generations of blues queens.

Yep, that would have been a good one to hear Janis do. Turtle Blues isn't too far off.

Ha
All of Bonnie Raitt's early albums are fantastic. Keep digging!

Reminds me of another good one, this one more recent - Susan Tedeschi, now married to Derek Trucks.

I see what happened. The link I posted earlier now only retrieves six versions of "Women Be Wise." Earlier it showed about twenty, including this one by Wynonna:
Play

Anyway, Sippie Wallace is here:
Play

I failed in a search for a version by Susan Tedeschi.
