If we skipped the wasteful conversion of grain to meat and just ate the grain, we would have a lot left over for export to places like India.
I agree Brew..... And when the price goes up enough that beef becomes so expensive we don't want it or can't afford it, farmers will stop feeding grain to cattle.
We're still in sort of a la - la land of cheap food here in the USA, despite prices being higher than historical norms. But things are beginning to change. Although I did notice Congress just passed a huge agricultural subsidy package laden with pork and earmarks that Bush is threatening to veto. But the votes already exist to override. Seems strange for a Dem congress to be passing subsidies to Agri-Corps at a time when their profitability is good due to favorable prices. Of course....it's an election year.
