I'm thinking dryer sheets prevent you from losing socks. And they work just as well if you use only a half or quarter sheet at a time.
I think I've seen a few socks that are actually made like that, but I go for the more flexible ones.
However, my socks are getting old and quite a few are stretched to fit either the left or right foot. If I put it on the "wrong" foot I have a loose triangle in front of my smaller toes. That's telling me it's time to buy more socks! Also, the heels are starting to ride up the back up my ankle..another sign these socks have served their purpose.
