Online Surveys

Every time that I go to Home Depot I get a chance to win a $5000 gift card if I log on to their web site and answer a few Qs. I have done this dozens of times as I guess that I get a lot of stuff @ HD. You may be surprised to hear that I have never won. Have any of you ever entered a survey/time waster/pipe dream like this and ever won? Ever known anyone who won?

I entered again today as I bought a $4 tube of silicone. Wish me luck...

The odds of you getting silicone all over everything are significantly higher than winning the five grand...

Of course you won. You are now on their permanent "sucker" list. I'll bet you even gave them much more personal information than you intended to. What more could you ask for?

Now, you can be assured of never missing an opportunity to sell you something you wouldn't have thought of, if left to your own devices.

I've entered the HD survey contest at least 50 times. No wins. I've also bought 5 tickets for the Ocean City boardwalk Harley Davidson raffle every year for 31 years. No Harley for Harley. I only play the lottery when it's in excess of $100M, but no wins there either. Luckily my retirement plans didn't depend too much on luck.

In their defense, I haven't gotten a single bit of spam from Home Depot as a result of the surveys.

I bought a two-year-old used car from someone who won an identical new car. Price was right, a very good deal, it was not a lemon! I felt like a winner. Does that count?

I once won a free Coke from Jerry's Sub Shop. That's the extent of my lifelong contest winnings.

A customer in front of me at the checkout (when I was buying my mother-of-the-bride dress yesterday) was using a $2500 debit card that she had won that way. I'm not sure what website but I thought she said Home Depot. She said that she always entered but never won, and was really surprised when she finally did win.

Anyway, the card only had $47 left on it, much to her surprise, so I guess she did not win as big a prize as she thought. She paid for the rest using another card.
