Never was into golf nor knew anyone who was.. but new golf-centered developments are hurting..

Not to get totally down on golf.. just as a friendly advisory warning, though.. them pesticides can be lethal, not just to fish, birds and other wildlife but to humans, too.. I never knew anything about this until a couple of weeks ago when I came across these articles while reading about Las Vegas area water issues:

Some places do have pesticide bans now, and the article I was originally looking at mentions golf courses in AZ actually ripping out acres and acres of turf -- with subsidized incentives from the water authority of $1.50 (elsewhere cited as $2) PER SQ.FT.:

I really wanted the new Green TV channel to be interesting and informative, but it's much to do about "celebrities" and how green they are. One show had Alice Cooper, playing golf at his "home" course in Phoenix, telling us all how he played with "recycled" golf balls. Of course, it takes a brazzilion gallons of water to keep the grass alive in the desert, but I am really impressed that he's sacrificed so much to be green...

holey moley.. the article mentions ripping up 55 acres at this one course..
55 acres = 2,395,802 sq.ft.

2,395,802 * 1.5 = $3,593,703.. three and a half million dollar publicly-funded compensation. Gotta love that privatized socialism, boy. It's like inverse extortion.. pay us, or else we'll put in golf turf! bwa ha ha ha ha

huh?
Hmm.. yeah I'm paying US federal taxes for war in Iraq, etc. ... but the local AZ/NV water boards are somewhat on their own. My grandma did pay for those dams out there, though.

In the meantime.. the US armed forces operate hundreds of their own golf courses..
regular troops don't get to play there much, I imagine, nor do most of us.
