Ms. Cha Sa-soon, 69, became a national heroine in South Korea in May when she passed her driver's license written test on the 950th try (after taking two-hour bus rides to the test center almost daily for three years). (It took her only 10 more tries to pass the driving test, and Hyundai gave her a new car as a reward.)

Uhhh...I hope Ms. Cha Sa-soon stays in South Korea. Sounds like someone I don't want to be driving near myself....yikes!

I think I saw her in the Wal-Mart parking lot yesterday.

My Mom didn't learn to drive until she was 45. I think she failed her test at least 3 times due to trouble maneuvering the 3-point turn in a big-finned '50's car (kept hitting the curb). She routinely drove with her right foot on the gas and her left foot on the brake When she finally passed, Dad bought her a crazy souped up car that he got cheap at some auction...a Muntz Jet. I remember it was royal blue with cream leather interior and a cream leather convertible top. She quickly got rid of it for something that wasn't so fast and flashy...a Nash Rambler (definitely more "her").

PA currently requires parallel parking to pass the driving test (they did not in 1970 when I got my license). I would fail today. Can't park worth a darn...need a landing strip. I am persona non grata at the Wal-mart across the highway due to ripping off the bumper of a store security guard's car while driving my beast of a Land Cruiser. I hadn't driven the car for awhile and was clumsy in my turning.

I grew up in a neighborhood that became heavily Asian over the years, mostly Korean. One of the Korean owned drivers' ed operations was named the "Boom Boom Driving School."

There was also the very small toy and game shop that decided to ape the big chain with its name: "Toys F Us."

My Mom got her license at 64 after my Dad died . She drove locally into her mid 80's and never had an accident . She sold her car at 92 only because she was moving .
